Fingerprinting Canadian citizens at US airports.
I understood that Canadians entering the US did not have to have photos and fingerprints taken by US immigration. Yesterday a Canadian acquaintance of mine was telling me that she had her photo and fingerprints taken by US immigration on her way back to Vancouver. She flew from Amsterdam to Detriot and connected the same day to Vancouver. Have Canadian fodorites had similar experiences?

Its a new policy - I believe Mexicans are exempt but not Canadians -
I had provided a link to this information in a previous post but checked back on it a bit ago and that page is no longer available.
I did some searches on CNN news and found the info about Mexicans being exempt.
I will be crossing border from Canada to US next week by car - believe it does not yet apply to crossing the border by car but we shall see -

I just called the department regarding this. If you are a Canadian arriving directly from Canada photo ID is all that is required at this time. Jan 1/07 passports are required. They said a Canadian arriving from a
country other than Canada may be subject to more investigation at the discretion of US Immigration.
