Finger Lakes ..

I'll be driving through the Finger Lakes area mid July and would like to know if any one can tell me about The Ramada Inn in Geneva on Seneca Lake? Are there any restaurants near by you can recommend? Thank You.

We stayed in Geneva which is very conveniently located to all the lakes and lake towns including Seneca Falls. It is also the beginning (end?) of the route (14?) that takes you through the wineries and to Watkins Glen where you can walk through the Gorge and take a boat ride on Seneca Lake (must-do).

Stick to hotels near the lake in Geneva & not in town.

The best restaurant is Uncle Joes for Italian.

If you are going to be in Syracuse, visit the Dinosaur Barbeque for a meal. Its a GREAT place for ribs, chicken, etc. Huge meals and great beer selection. Syracuse itself is a dump. I went to law school there and after 3 years, I was ready to GO. THere's just not much happening besides the school. The Armory Square area downtown is the best for bars/restaurants.

The annual Finger Lakes Wine Festival in Watkins Glen is the weekend of July 19 - 20. I've never been to it - although we are going to go to it this year. We tried to get rooms for the weekend several weeks ago and had a lot of trouble. I don't know if this is when you will be driving through.

It's a beautiful area. We were there (near Ithaca) for the first time over Memorial Day and are returning.

For a fun, inexpensive meal in Skaneateles, try Doug's Fish Fry, then head over to the tavern at the town's main inn(can't remember its name--Sherwood? maybe) for dessert and drinks.

We were there for festival and really enjoyed it. We had dinner one night at the seafood restaurant at the Ramada in Geneva. It was okay, not great. Hotel looked pretty. We stayed at Glenora Inn on Seneca which was really, really nice. They had good food there on the large patio overlooking the vineyards and lake

I've been to the Wine Festival several times and it's a blast! Good music, good food, and great wine! We, too, will be in the Finger Lakes that weekend (July 18 - 21) but staying on Keuka Lake. There are lots of small inns and b&b's throughout the Finger Lakes that I would recommend before I'd stay at the Ramada. It's just a big ugly hotel on the lake with lousy food. With all the great restaurants around, that would be my last choice. Watkins Glen and Hammondsport have incredible restaurants.
