Went to Emeril's last night and sat at the food bar. We haven't done that in years. It was fun and the food was great. BBQ shrimp appetizer, Andouille crusted drum, whole flounder, banana cream pie. We sat at the food bar years ago. Emeril was in the kitchen and kept spooning samples into our plates. Don't expect this to happen too often these days. Still a great restaurant. Call for reservations. We called two weeks ago and they were full for Sat. night except for the food bar overlooking the kitchen. It worked out fine.

You haven't mentioned Galatoire's or Antoine's for classic New Orleans food. If you go to Antoine's, make sure your waiter gives you a tour of the 175 yr old restaurant with all of the private rooms like the Rex room and all the secret passageways etc.; be sure to order Oyster Rockefeller or Oyster Foch, and get Baked Alaska for dessert. Other excellent Restaurants include Pelican Club and R'evolution. R'evolution is the creation of Chefs John Folse and Rick Tramonto and is in the Royal Sonesta; a modern take on creole cuisine. Muriel's on Jackson Square has amazingly good food for it's tourist location. They have an upstairs balcony that you can go up to for an after-dinner drink to people-watch over Jackson Square. There are also a number of new restaurants that have recently opened up in the French Quarter and are making a buzz. One is Balise; chef is Justin Devillier from La Petit Grocery on Magazine St (a contestantt on Top Chef New Orleans). Meauxbar Bistro has new owner and chef and is getting a lot of accolades. John Besh (August, Dominica) has opened a casual restaurant called Johnny Sanchez (with chef Aaron Sanchez) in tha quarter. A new restaurant in the warehouse district near Cochon is Sac-a-Lait- great Sunday brunch!

Tableau, on. Orner at Jackson Square. the upstairs balcony has very nice view of the square. Food is awesome, service excellent. Many dishes are available at half portions. Menu is very good. Drinks are Very creative, excellent wine list, all of it reasonable for what you are getting.
I have eaten there twice in the past 5 months. Loved it both times ( Thurs and Sat nights). I never imagines how good turtle soup could be. I want to go back again.

Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately, I was so busy with work I didn't call to make rex until last week. It was either 5:00 or 10:00 at my top choices, so we wound up with Commander's Palace Fri dinner, Irene's Sat dinner, and R'evolution for Sunday brunch. Just changed my flight to get in earlier. Looking for a casual spot in the Garden District for Thurs night. Any ideas?

Casual restaurant in the Garden District- Try Coquette just down Washington Ave. from Commander's Palace. It is small and will be crowded because of Jazz Fest, but the food is very good and if you can't get a table you can eat at the bar.
