FIND ME IN NY
My husband and I are visiting NY for the first time and staying at the W the Court hotel on 39th and Lexington, We would like to utilize the subway as much as possible. How accessible is the hotel to the stops/stations? Also any suggestions for small, light breakfast (fruit, smoothies, pastries etc) and a good cappuccino. (Please no Starbucks) Any price range is OK. Thank you for the suggestions. We will be in NY from 5/17/02 to 5/28/02

The closest subway station is in Grand Central station at 42nd St. You can enter Gr. Central at Lexington and 42nd St. This is an express stop for the #4 an 5 express trains and the #6 local. Also for shuttle train to Times Square. Purchase a $4 Fun Pass Metro card for unlimited use of subway and buses for a full day. It can be purchased at vending machines found at the entrance to the subway.

Can't comment too much on the capuccino part, but for breakfast you'll be near one of the best bagel shops in NYC.
Essa-Bagel on Third Ave b/w 50st-51st.
It'll make for a nice stroll/walk in the morning to start your day. If you don't feel like walking or you're in a hurry, you can take the #6 train from Grand Central 1 stop to 51st Street.

Why on earth would you need to go 12+ blocks for a bagel place.(and it's ridiculous to get on the subway for one stop--it wil take you longer just to get in and out of the stations than to walk) Good bagels, yes, but it's just a bagel place, not a restaurant and there's nothing nearby you'd be interested in seeing otherwise. There should be a branch or two of Zaro's, a bakery mini-chain near where you're staying. Lots of takeout food places nearby in general because you're so close to office buildings and one of the city's major transportation hubs, Grand Central Terminal.
If any price is really OK, Lili, I'm sure the W must have great breakfasts--it's an great hotel (friends have stayed there)!

Oren's Daily Roast in GCT on the end near the subway entrances has pretty good cappucino - better than the 'buck's but there may be something better nearby - I'll try to find out. there's a Timothy's just outside the terminal on 42nd and park but there's is nothing special.
