Find a guide for dayhikes.

I will be traveling to Oregon in July on a solo trip. I want to do some day hikes in the old growth forests but I do not want to hike solo. Does anyone have advice on finding a guide, naturalist, botanist, etc.?

Matt is the owner. I have been with him and guide Herb in Oregon and I also did a trip with just Herb in Moab. They are based in Moab, but they do a bit in Oregon in July and August each year.

Best adventure I have ever done. Completely blows away rafting the Grand Canyon or any caving that I have done, IMOP. This experience does require some rappelling(after you have done it once, you'll be so pumped you can't wait for the next one). It is very safe. If your not this adventurous they might just do a hike or could at least suggest someone. If you try to call them or email-they don't always answer or get back with you immediately. The best thing is to call.

If you are interested in this at all then I would suggest the Cascade Creek tour. It is the most difficult and longest, but totally amazing. It is a canyon that the owner(Matt) discovered himself. I would imagine that very very few people have ever seen these waterfalls and it is in a forested area. There is no way that you could possibly cut trees there, so I would imagine that it is a true old growth forest.

Where would you like to base? I could take you along on one of my geocaching adventures. [email protected]

You could contact the Mazamas, our local climbing/hiking group based out of Portland. There are other groups around the state, but this is the largest and oldest. Anyway, you could see what outings are scheduled for your dates and sign up to go along.

Also in Portland is the Bergfreundis- don't think you have to be a member to join a hike and also Friends of the Columbia River Gorge have scheduled hikes with a leader. Also check Parks and Rec of Portland- they may have some guided hikes- I know Parks and Rec of Eugene does.

Hope you find a great hike that suit you. Oregon is a great place for some beautiful hikes

I do remember seeing some Ranger-led hikes at Mt. Hood. There might be some at Mt. St. Helens too. Not much old growth forest at st. helens though.
