Hey--

I'm checking out New York City this November and I'm staying in the Financial District. Any suggestions for restaurants? Nothing too fancy, but ethnicity does not matter. Also I will be there by myself and dining by myself, so if that at all affects choice of restaurants, please let me know thanks!

Absolutely go to Roy's, would put it in the fancy category but you can dress casual. Food is award wining EuroAsian fused, they have cut their prices by a third putting there already reasonable menu at burglary prices.

Entrees between 18-25 dollars. love Roy's signature dishes but was wowed by a nightly special recently by resident chef. Roy made his name on Oahu restaurant and still guest chef this one but other chef in charge currently.

Why does being alone effect where you dine. I dine alone all the time don't get your idea that dining alone impacts where you go? Something like 70% of residents of NYC are single think they all have dates. Most of us never ever cook and we are not doing take out every night either.

Meant to say 70% of resident Manhattanites.

As a NYC resident who eats out much too much, you must trust me when I suggest the following places in the downtown/tribeca area:

Odeon - on West Broadway (for dinner spot oozing with atmosphere & spiffy cocktails)

Bubby's - on Hudson (for breakfast - get here EARLY on the weekends)

Petite Abeille - on West Broadway (for casual Belgian food like mussels, fries and fish stew)

American Park - in Battery Park (for a beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty and lovely new American fare)

Mangia - on Wall Street (for reasonably priced, casual lunch in an upscale neo-cafeteria setting)

There is a really good french (bistro style) place on John St. called Les Halles. It is a sister restaurant to the original Les Halles on Park Avenue South. I've only heard good things about it, and the original midtown location is very good.
