Boston has a week-long Harborfest with a million events, my favorite part is the Boston Pops on the Esplanade on July 4, with coordinated fireworks! This year it's from Tuesday July 2 to Sunday July 7.

The St. Louis Fair is great fun for all ages and they put on one heck of a firework show, right over the Mississippi. http://www.fairstl.org/

I thought I read not too long ago about a big 4th of July celebration in California. Any ideas anyone?

Our nation's capital, Washington DC. O.K., so what if it's hot as hell. Stay at the 4 Seasons in Georgetown. Sip margaritas by the Potomac and then walk over to the Lincoln Memorial and watch the fireworks. Best fireworks you'll ever see - real "in your face" stuff. It'll make you proud to be an American (if you're not already).

Sitting on my parents dock at Candlewood Lake watching my father and uncle try to set off fireworks without maiming themselves!

How about the San Diego area. The Navy
Seals put on a excellent show/deomonstration and Coronado has the parade, fireworks, etc. Although it is crowed, we enjoyed our 4th there, last year!

Another vote for Boston. Very patriotic and memorable (though crowded).

Another vote for Boston! BTW, if you go early enough in the morning (by 9am) to the Esplanade it isn't that bad! Just pack a cooler for the day/night. People are very friendly and don't mind if you step on their blanket if you leave your spot.

Believe it or not, the fireworks over the Columbia River between Portland OR and Vancouver WA are spectacular. It's like a grand finale for 45 minutes. The music is broadcast over the radio and it is stirring. We watch from our boat. What a night!

Have a great fourth!

I'll second the Washington, DC fireworks! Sitting on the sloping grounds in front of the Iwo Jima Memorial, looking across the river with the Washington Monument in the foreground at the beautiful display.
