Fastpass at disney parks

The way the Fastpass system works is: you go to one of the rides that uses Fastpass (the most popular ones do). There are kiosks which dispense Fastpass tickets -- it will show you the window of time that your fastpass will admit you. In other words, you might go to Splash Mountain at eleven a.m.; on the Fastpass machine, the clock says that it is currently dispensing passes for (say) 2:15 to 3:15. You can then decide if you want to just wait in line, or else get a Fastpass. If you get the pass, you come back any time during that hour and go directly into the Fastpass line, which is usually a ten minute wait, max.
Once you get a pass, you can't get another one at any other Fastpass ride until you have used the one you currently have (the Fastpass kiosks read the barcode on your entry ticket, and are all linked together.) If you're in a group, though, you can sort of circumvent this if you let the kids use one of the adults ticket to score another fastpass to a ride that the adult doesn't want to go on.
When you go to the Fastpass kiosk, you should decide quickly whether or not the time it is displaying works for you; the window of time it offers gets later throughout the day -- and finally it will say no more Fastpass tickets are offered.
It seems a little confusing at first, but it's very simple once you've done it -- and once you use Fastpass, you will never go without it.

Your fastpass will tell you what time you can get another fastpass.

We also found out last summer that you can use your fastpass after the times on the pass. For example, if you have a fastpass for 10:15 to 11:15 AM and you are busy at that time, you can go anytime after 11:15 and still get in the fastpass lane. Fastpass is a great system and definitely cuts time wasted waiting in line. Plan your tour of the parks accordingly

I was doubtful about the Fast Pass system, but once we used it we loved it. You may have to do a bit more walking, but you actually get to see more, because you are not wasting time in line.
I did not know that you could use them after the last time on there. Thanks for the tip as we will be headed back there soon.
