The Book Passage - Corte Madera, Marin County. I don't know of any other bookstore in the Bay Area that has more authors come and speak. Also terrific seminars and a great travel writing conference.

MLTimes - tell me about your favorite used bookstores in Phila! I love used book stores.

I really like the Book Trader. I also like the bookstore of the Philadelphia Free Library behind the Central Library on Logan Square. There's also a nice used bookstore on Fairmount near Eastern State Peniteniary - the name escapes me right now!

Giovanni's Room is probably the most famous bookstore in Philly. It is a gay bookstore, and if you are looking for some randy lad mags with photos of bears, this is the place for you, sweetie darling.

Best used bookstores in Philadelphia:

Book Corner, Book Trader of course
Big Jar, just up from Book Trader
Hibberd's, Bauman's and Last Word on Walnut at 13th, 16th and 40th, respectively
And I just scored some great finds at the new used bookstore on 4th at Bainbridge in QV

I really, really miss the Owl Bookshop on the campus of Bryn Mawr College and their sister store in DC called The Owl. Both stores funded scholarships at Bryn Mawr.
