Famingo - Anyone stayed here?

We are leaving this Wednesday for Las Vegas and are staying at the Flamingo for the first time (thought we would try a change after staying at the Stardust for years). Does anyone have any tips about this hotel? i.e. room location - pool or strip view, gambling (video poker?), pool, etc.

Thanks!

Flamingo is a big step up from the Stardust.
Location is far better.
Rooms better.
Obviously the best rooms are the strip view rooms.

Last time I was going to stay there, I heard pretty negative things about it on this board - mostly that it was all run down. However, once we got there, the front desk person said "you're in luck, we're upgrading you to a newly renovated room". It was a wonderful room, brand new everything, and a view of the strip and the Bellagio fountains. So, the point I'm trying to make is - ask for a renovated room.

But, ddd, most posters here are comparing ALL hotels in LV.
Linda is only comparing with the Stardust.
Compared to LV's best, the Flamingo is mediocre. But compared to the Stardust, it's a big step up.

Stayed there in August. Had an awesome room with a pool view. Will definately stay there again. Our room #1812 huge, nice furniture, carpets. PERFECT. Not much luck gambling here tho. But others did of course. Found eating at the Barbary Coast next door was great.
Have fun

I stayed there in August in a room overlooking the pool, great view. There were a lot of people lining up outside the pool gates about an hour before the pool opened to claim the best lounges so get there early if you have plans to lay out in the sun. In my opinion the casino has a goofy, unorganized layout, like it was made from 8 different buildings but the staff was always friendly. It's in a great location, much more central than the Stardust.

Stayed there in July. I must have gotten one of the older rooms. I will never stay there again. Bad room, bad food, bad service. I had to wait over 45 minutes to check in even though there were only 2 people ahead of us. Hopper fills had long waits as well. Food at the cafe was pretty bad. I agree eat at Barbary Coast. Pool was ok but the water was fridgely cold. Not many chairs to be had because people were hopping in and out due to the fact the water was so cold. I think I would stay at IP before I stayed there again. But it does have it's following.

Is it best to register at the airport or the hotel on a Wednesday afternoon? Especially if we have preferences to request (high floor, view of strip). Where is the hotel registry at the airport?

great location...the rooms over looking the strip or side strip are great...even if rooms are a liitle tired...higher up floors are the best...wasn`t lucky enough to get reno one...but strip views were great....ask for one of either..all they can say is no...thoght the buffets and Lindy`s coffe shop was great....Babary Coast is good and he BIG buffet at Bally`s...liked the BC and casino(O`Sheas) between Flamingo(attached) and Imperial Palace for gambling and drinks(free)....also food court in OSheas

Stage Deli is good and also has a good breakfast special at Bally`s...the check-in for F is at the baggage claim area...see if they`ll upgrade you if not go to the hotel...and check in on the side entrance
