Family Summer Camps
Hi All!
I am hoping that some of you may know of some Family Summer Camps - preferably in the Eastern US. My entire family (Hubby and 3 kids)think it would be fun to go to a camp for a week or so as a family. We're looking for something with a variety of activities, not just a focus on one thing. Something where we could stay in the cabins, swim, hike, arts and crafts, horseback riding, stuff like that.... Your typical summer camp experience, just one for an entire family. Thanks!

Check out Camp Friendship, near Charlottesville, VA. They have horseback riding, river rafting, a pool tennis, and many other activities, in a beautiful setting. It's primarily a kids' camp but they set aside a week or two every summer for families. They have a website: www.campfriendship.com.

You can check out www.tohko.com to e-mail them and see if they are offering family camp this summer.
It is a website for a boy's camp in New Hampshire that my son has gone to for many years. I have never attended family camp and I don't see it listed on their website but in years past they have had it. It is affiliated with Purity Springs Resort & King Pine ski area.

Ahhh - Chris beat me to it. I love Camp Friendship - our family has been there for a family weekend camp and had a blast. Great activities and great staff- lots of fun for everyone (3 kids were then 8-10 years) The cabins are relatively nice too, which is a plus as my body doesn't like brick hard mattresses anymore. Have fun!

Kim,
This won't fit your criteria exactly, but may be helpful for others following the post.
The EAA in Oshkosh, Wisconsin has summer camps that revolve around aviation activities. The facilities are beautiful and the activities are fun (rocket-launching contests, etc.) Check out eaa.org.

Thanks Chris and Boots for the Camp Friendship info. It sounds like a great place but unfortunately their Family Camp week is after my kids go back to school. They have to go back the second week in August!
Anyone else out there know of any camps?
Kim

Eagle Camp, South Hero, VT. It's located on an island in the middle of Lake Champlain. They have either cabins or tents, but most families prefer the tents. They aren't what you normally picture with a tent...they sit on wooden platforms, are probably 8' at the peak. Each tent contains two beds, dresser, nightstand and a couple of chairs. If children are old enough, they can have a tent next to the parents, but if younger, there are a number of double tents--for four, arranged as two separate rooms. There's a central dining hall where all meals are served family style, a children's playhouse where the younger children can spend the morning, giving parents a bit of free time. There's swimming in the lake, boating, tennis, croquet and nearby touring if you want--Montreal is a day trip as is Mt Mansfield/Smugglers Notch area or Ausable Chasm in NY state. No horseback riding.
We went every year for 3 weeks from the time I was 5 until I graduated from hs, then I began working there summers through college. My brothers still go with their families, 50 something years after we began spending our summers there!
