Tahoe is very nice and very beginner friendly. It might help if you mentioned your geographic location.

Anywhere in Colorado. The snow is the best in Febreuary and March. The first time we took our kids at the ages yours are was to Vail. The terrain is varied with lots of green slopes (what you will want for a while), the ski school excellent. And DO get lessons for everyone in the family wherever you go. It will make a huge difference.
Another thing about Vail is that you can ski the greens even at the top of the mountain.

Mammoth is huge and has lots of different runs. We went one year over Christmas and had a great time. Skied every day and there is so much mountain to ski we never got bored!

Tahoe has lots of ski resorts around so you can try different places. Have found most to be pretty family friendly except maybe Squaw.

Funny, although I am from the Lake Tahoe area, I would suggest someplace like Vail. Best all around amenities and programs, the total package. Problem with the Tahoe resorts, though I love 'em dearly, is the resort 'experience' is not nearly as strong as a place like Vail. Another alternative is Blackcomb at Whistler in B.C. Awesome resort infrastructure and customer service. Plus, a tremendous value due to the exchange rate.
