Family driving vacation.

We are a family of four, twin 8yr old boys. We live in OH, and looking for a nice family vacation that we can drive to. We did Myrtle Beach a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. We like the beach, but do not have to go to a beach. Looking for a destination with a variety of kids activities. We like swimming, amusement parks, mini golf, interesting sightseeing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Check out the Williamsburg area. Just don't tell the kids that a lot of stuff in this area is educational: it'll spoil there fun to find out they're learning something.

The Historic Triangle is a great idea. Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown make for a nice holiday. Busch Gardens is nearby when the history overload is too much, as well. There are often family packages available through the website for lodging and ticket combinations.

How long?
In Ohio, Cedar Point, the state beaches, and the Lake Erie Islands can make for a great long weekend or more, without much driving for you. Presque Isle, PA, has similar appeal, not as great an amusement park, but better beaches.
If you head straight east, you can combine Hershey, Gettysburg, Philadelphia and the Jersey shore (e.g., Cape May), all with sights and activities that should interest the whole family.

Camping at Shenandoah NP

Niagra Falls if you haven't been there

I agree with the Gatlinburg,Pigeon Forge TN. Beautiful area with plenty to do for all. Ripley's Aquarium is awesome. Plenty of shops, go karts, restaurants, mini golf, trolley, sightseeing in the mountains, tram ride over the mountains, and plenty more.

Another option is Wisconsin Dells.

This will be our 13th trip to Hilton Head Island, SC this summer. We live in Columbus and it's about a 14 hour drive with several stops.

We like action and lots of options and HHI does it for us. The beach is hard packed sand. There are tons of condos to rent in all different price ranges. There are plenty of hotel/resorts to choose from as well.

One of the things we like best (again, options) is that if it rains, it's about an hour to Savannah, or 90 minutes to Charleston and with kids, there are tons of historical and fun things to do there.

HHI has the beach, your condo should have a pool, there is minature golf, shopping malls, movie theaters, tons of restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

If you want to be alone, try a less congested island like Fripp, Hunting Island, etc. Those are very lovely, just kind of remote and less activities to choose from.

We agree with the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge TN. Beautiful place together with plenty to do for everyone. Ripley's Fish tank is awesome. A good amount of retailers, move karts, dining places, tiny golfing, trolley, sightseeing inside the foothills, tram drive on the foothills, as well as plenty additional.
