Any particular kind of food or price range. Around what time. You will probably have the best luukc of you eat after the pre-theater crowd moves on.

A reservation for 15 may be tough. You may need to find something with a private room. Last night I had a pre-theater meal at Dervish, they have a sign that said a private room is available. You can give them a call. Another place you can try is Havana Central. For Italian you can try Cascina. Al lthe places I mentioned are fairly reasonable and have decent food.

You can also look around on menupages.com. You can search by location and type of food. You also can view menus and comments.

If you want a raucous atmosphere, Carmine's might be the perfect place. Southern Italian, large family style portions. You can just reserve a large table in the regular dining room or get a private room (although 15 will be small for a private room.)

Would help if you gave us more info on budget, kind of atmosphere and kind of cuisine. Do you want a private room?

I suspect Carmine's would accommodate your party very easily - on 44th, half block from the center of Times Square. Great family-style Italian food, popular with the theatre crowd. I went there recently with a much larger group, and they just pushed tables together for us and served us huge platters of great food. Take a look at their website and/or call to confirm they can serve you! http://www.carminesnyc.com/

The restaurant is a little ways from Times Square (6th ave @ 49th), but if you are looking for steak, Del Frisco's has several private rooms, or could likely accomodate 15 in the main dining room with enough notice.

When I saw the thread title I immediately thought of Carmine's, too.

Everyone is thinking the same – Carmine’s! And with that many people you will be able to sample a lot of dishes.

Sorry folks, but if I was coming to New York, with all its great restaurants, I'd certainly look for something better than Carmine's!

Well I agree Howard, but without more direction on price and ambiance, it's hard to select. Keen's Steakhouse is not far from Times Square and has some beautiful, historic smaller private dining rooms. That would be pricey but very good.

I've only been to Carmine's once and I didn't really care for it. But that's because there were two of us -- way too much food being served family style, and everyone around us was in bigger groups having way too much fun. So that was my first thought. For a group of 15, I'd do Carmines!

Come now, Neopolitan, do you mean to tell me that if you were part of a group of 15 that was getting together for dinner, you'd recommend Carmine's for your group? Sorry, Neopolitan, but I can't picture you doing that!
I'd like to hear the OP's response to the previously asked info on a price range and type(s) of food before making recommendations.
For 15 people, you don't necessarily have to have a private room. I can think of a lot of restaurants that could easily accommodate that size group and would be delighted to have them in their regular dining room.

Sorry I didn't give more info.Price range around $25 for entrees. Thanks to all for respnses. Someone also suggested Sardi's. The group is from Canada and U. S. and do want to experience a bit of NYC as well as have a nice meal.

Howard, then you don't know me very well. I certainly would. I don't believe in going to "high end" or more gourmet places with a group that size. My experience with groups of that size are more along the lines of TGIFriday's for example. It's really all about the fun and the group, not so much about the food. Besides the food is more than decent at Carmine's and it is a lot of fun doing family style. Sounds good to me -- just not when two of us would rather do a more fine dining, quiet meal.

I agree with Neo - loud and fun in Times Square with a big group. Carmine's is good, and Virgil's might be able to do a party of 15 too (good BBQ - fun place).

Don't do Sardi's. It's overpriced and the food is not that great.

I agree, don't do Sardi's. Good surroundings but overpriced mediocre food.

I also think Trattoria Dell 'Arte is worth a look for Italian. Not as close to Times Square (7th ave & 56 st) but more upscale than Carmine's. I think the food's better. They have a nice private room right off the main dining room that would be great for 15. I think you've got good options here.

OK, Neopolitan, I'll bow to your eclecticism (for want of a better word).
Meanwhile, until the OP gives us more details of what he/she is looking for in terms of price and type)(s) of food(so far the only criterion mentioned is a "good" restaurant), further comments would seem superfluous.

OK, next question. Do you picture your group of 15 being sort of dressed up sitting quietly having intimate conversations with only the person on either side of them while focusing on the food? Or do you picture passing big plates of food while Joe at one end of the table calls out to Fred at the other end? Do you picture an evening of social refinement -- or do you plan to laugh a lot and have a lot of fun?
