Fam of 5 in Montana for a few days

at the end of august, my family are flying in to Spokane and driving across to lakeside, MT. We have 1 overnight that we might stop in Cort'd Alene to break up the travel with 3 little ones. Then after the family event, go to Glacier. Questions I have

1. Most scenic route to make our trek from Spokane to Lakeside?
2. Things to do in Glacier for a family of 3 little ones, under 7.
3. Do we spend our 2 extra days in Glacier or 1 day in glacier and see something on our trip back to Spokane?
4. Is the shuttle vs self-driving the Road to the Sun better in August given the tourist traffic?

It's about a 3.5 hour drive to take I-90 from Spokane to Plains to Lakeside.

It's about a 4.5 hour to take a more northern route to Sandpoint and then to Plains to Lakeside. The 4.5 hour route is more scenic, but sometimes more time in the car isn't a great option with three young kids.

It's about a 50 minute trip from Lakeside to West Glacier and it could be a lot longer depending on traffic.

I'm not clear on how many days you have for Lakeside/Glacier.

What's a good stopping point if we take the northern route'?

as for days in lakeside we could do friday-sunday in glacier...if there's enough to do
or else we could do friday and saturday and then head somewhere halfway back to spokane and do sunday there.

we fly out monday late afternoon from spokane.

We have never been, but Sandpoint Idaho is well known for this attraction. I'd call it kid friendly!

Silverwood is only 30 minutes north of Coeur d' Alene on US 95. You could also take the Empire Builder out of Spokane after midnight and be in Whitefish MT in the morning and rent your car there for Glacier. I would rent a car instead of depending on the shuttle buses.
Check out Riverside Park in Spokane while you are there. It was the site of Expo '74 in the smallest city to ever host a World's Fair. There is still a carousel that the kids love.
