Fairmont Hotel -New Orleans- Comments

Will be staying at the Fairmont Hotel. Supposedly it is 4Star. Does it deserve its rating ? I would welcome any comments from anybody who has stayed there. Also we have two children (5y & 7y) does anybody know of suitable places close to the Fairmont to have breakfast ?
Thanks.

3 star at best!! Renovations have probably fixed the old tired rooms but they are still small. The hotel staff ranged from great to bitter.

4 star?
Yes.
On a scale of 1-10.
Don't bother.

I was very disappointed at the Fairmont...old rooms, bad air-conditioning!!! Stay at the new Ritz-Carlton or the Montaleone or La Pavillion...I wouldn't waste my money at the Fairmont.

I was so looking forward to staying at The Fairmont after seeing their Christmas decorations on HGTV. Was I disappointed! The rooms were sooo small, with slatted doors(you could hear every peep from the hallway). The maid did not empty our waste cans for two or three days, even after requsts were made to do so. What I found most distressing though, was the attitudes of the front desk staff. They wouldn't make eye contact or speak in a civil manner with us. I clearly remember saying thank you to the clerk and she would not resond. Some of the lovely places in the quarter might have rooms that are too small for a family. You might try The Iberville Suites, or even The Marriott on Canal. Hope this helps- vacations are so great, I hate to see your's ruined by this hotel.

Just a walk through would be good enough for this place. It really is not much more than a 2 maybe three star. Monteleone is more lively and closer to the Riverwalk.
