Excalibur or Stratosphere?

We are planning to go to Vegas soon. We are 4 30ish guys who aren't hooked on gambling. We have found good rates at both of these properties. Which one would you advise us to take? All comments will be appreciated.

Excalibur no question for me. Better location. Very nice rooms. Children are a negative though. Too many in non casino areas

Excalibur for sure, mainly because of it's location. You are right in the middle of the strip action, with MGM, Monte Carlo, NYNY, Luxor, Mandalay Bay....you get the idea! I stayed at the Excalibur about 8 years ago, and as far as I can remember the rooms were fine. Did you look into the Tropicana? It is right there, and it is usually resonable as well, not as Disneyland-ish. As far as I am concerned, the room is just for crashing in, you don't need to hang out at that casino all the time. Have fun, and be sure to eat at the Rio buffet, it is worth the trip!

Have not stayed in either hotel but the Strasphere is so far removed from the rest of Las Vegas strip hotels you wont get the feel of LV.
The north strip is run down, empty lots, depressing.
Strasphere is a good place to visit to see the observation deck view of LV.

I'm a veteran of nearly a dozen 'guys trips' to Vegas. First off, stay away from Stratosphere unless it's to ride up to the observation deck or Big Shot. It's a LOOONGG way from where you'll be spending most of your time. The rooms at Excalibur and the whole 'purpose' of this place (caters to young kids) isn't really what you're looking for, but if you'll only be in the room to sleep, it really doesn't matter. You can't find comparable rates (few dollars more) at Luxor? Don't give up on Treasure Island, Paris, Monte Carlo also. Rates can change in a hurry sometimes. Check out www.lvol.com for lots of opinions.

I would stay away from both of them. The Stratosphere has a lousy location and the Excalibar is normally overrun with kids.

I would try for another property in the mid strip area. I would look at Ballys, Flamingo Hilton, Paris, etc. Sometimes you can turn up some pretty decent rates at these places. I have seen $39.00 /nt mant times at all 3 of them. Try the internet. In fact go to the web site "Las Vegas On Line" at:

I agree completely with Bam and Larry. Get a reservation at a decent price, but right before you leave, call the hotels again, looking for bargains. If occupancy is lower than expected someplace, you can get a deal.

I would also look into a couple others first. I think 4 guys at the Excal....well, let's say you might go nuts. Have you tried the Treasure Island? I know that they have a midweek rate of 50.00 and Paris has had a midweek rate of 39.00. I guess it all depends on when you go and how many conventions there are in town. Good luck! By the way, don't depend on your travel agent for a rate...call their 800 number and do the research yourself.
