Taken from www.cheapovegas.com:

"Room Quality Below average, but recently renovated. These rooms are slightly nicer than the rooms at a Motel 6, and they are clean. They are also small, tackily furnished and have showers, but no tubs. If you want a cheap place to sleep in a good location, they'll do fine. However, if you want your room to be a nice part of your vacation, we recommend someplace else in the same neighborhood, like Luxor, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, New York New York or the Tropicana"

I have not stayed there, but the casino is hideous, dirty and crowded.

The best thing is that they sell Krispy Kreme donuts...mmmmhh

If a nice room is an issue, you'd be much better off at Luxor or Tresure Island. If you are a bit lucky, the price difference *MAY* be negligible.

Forget the Luxor, unless you plan to make walking a good part of you and your kids' experience. Lobby to room can take you 20 minutes. I would not stay at Excalibur either.
Depending on the age of your kids, have you considered Circus Circus?
Another thing to consider is August will be hot. If your kids like the water, stay at a place with nice pool facilities. As the previous poster suggests, the Tropicana has nice pool facilities. So does MGM. If you're looking at Treasure Island, I'd also look at Mirage - right next door and better pool.
Take a look at www.lvol.com for more info.

Hi:

I think that thopps posted a question about Circus Circus yesterday, and didn't get very good opinions...

(I know I wouldn't stay there)...

Supposedly the best pool in Vegas is @ Mandalay Bay, though I think that it may not be very attractive for children, it is more expensive, and it is at the very end of the strip.

A good pool in a central location is @ the Flamingo Hilton...

Is it kid-friendly...? I have no idea.

If your children are taller than 48 inches I vote for the Mandalay Bay. It has a Lazy River, wave pool and other pools. They have a shark reef and have many cool places to eat like the House of Blues. It is a little more expensive, but very nice and the pool area is expansive. Mirage or Hilton would be a distant second. They can see the white tigers and dolphins at the Mirage as well as the volcano eruption. You can see the Pirates fight at Treasure Island and take a gondola ride at the Venetian. The Dancing Waters are found at Bellagio and the Roller Coaster was cool at NY. NY. At Paris you can ride to the top of an Eifel Tower and MGM has tigers as well and a M and M shop.
As for the Excalibur, it was crowded, over run with children and not too clean when we went through it. It is a lesser calibur hotel so to speak. The Luxor has King Tut and some virtual reality games and Caesars has the good shopping and also the Fashion Show Mall.
I would believe that you could get a pretty good rate at MB during August as it is so hot, so the pools and activities at all the hotels could take up the hot day hours.

I'm staying at Excalibur next week for at least the tenth time. I've never had a dirty room and the casino staff has always been friendly. It's in a good southern strip location, the pool is nice for the kids, and the price is great. The video game room is a ripoff, try to keep the kids out of there, plenty of other things to do. I took my kids to Red Rock Canyon and Hoover Dam for something different. It was hot (115) when I took the kids so it was hard to walk very far. With the money you save on the hotel room you can have a lot of fun. Really, the place is OK !

The review from chepovegas.com is right-on. We stayed there a few years ago with small kids (never again!) and found rooms to be adequate, not exciting, and not having a tub was a little difficult with small kids. There seemed to be a lot of families with kids coming and going in the lobby/casino which indicated to me that a lot of families stay there (and you HAVE to go thru the casino/lobby to get to your room.)

The dragon out front is amusing to kids, depending on the ages of yours, and the front of the hotel is pretty at night, the turrets on top are lit up, and it looks kind of magical.

I just stayed at the MGM the last week in March and I was very disappointed. If you check the pools on the website it does look very inviting. It sold us. When we went to look at the pool they had only one pool and one hot tub open. It was so overcrowded. It was just awful. The hotel seems to be too big for its work force. The previous person in our room had come back to the room and showered and ironed his new pants (he left the tags) and left. I called housekeeping and they told us to leave the room for a bit and they would send someone up. We went to eat and came back a few hours later and nothing had been done. I was so tired by then and the walk to the front desk to voice my opionion was soooo farrr away. I was just not impressed and would not stay again. The competition is so high that I just feel I can do better for my money.
