To johnlw and cd: Now THOSE are stories I believe!!!!
A similar thing happened to me, too, cd. I was walking in an area that I probably shouldn't have been in. A man appeared out of nowhere & was walking toward me very fast. I've got to tell you, my heart was in my throat - I KNEW this guy was up to no good. As he came nearer, he stared at me, then immediately turned to look past my right shoulder. As he passed me, he said: "you're lucky this time."
I almost fainted. And to this day, I still believe my guardian angel was behind me.

After I re-read my post, I probably should have also included that after he walked by, I turned around - there was NO ONE there - no person, no car, nothing.

No, but I've encountered many a hooker on my travels. Don't laugh, some are actually quite frightening!

In the city of Fall River, MA you can stay at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast Inn.

This is the house where "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her father forty whacks, then when she was done she gave her mother forty one".

What a great thread, esp. for this time of year. I don't have any stories, but my brother stayed in a place near (on?) Seneca Lake,NY that was said to be very haunted. He said there was a creepy man in 1800's garb sitting at the bar all night and a woman in a white negligee outside on the porch of their bedroom. Does anyone know what place this is or ever hear these stories?

Johnlw,

How in the world did the ghost cure a teenager with an eating disorder?

A guy I knew in college told me that his father had passed away unexpectedly the year before. He had been arguing with his father shortly before he died and the two never had a chance to patch things up. He was devastated by this, unable to eat or sleep for weeks.

One night, his mother and another woman entered his bedroom while he was sleeping and held a seance, holding a candle over his bed. He was able to communicate with his father and was absolutely overjoyed to be reassured that his father knew that he loved him and felt that he had been a wonderful son. In the morning when he woke up, he went to the kitchen to talk to his mother about the seance. She claimed she had no idea what he was talking about and that he must have been dreaming.

She was very convincing and he believed it was just a dream...until he sat on his bed and found dripped candle wax on his comforter.

I was living in a house that a friend of mine had the real estate listing on. The woman that owned the house had passed away and her two sons were selling it, all her furniture, dishes, clothes etc. were still in the house.

Mmy boyfriend and I were watching TV in the den on a very still early summer day. The room that we were in was one that she had used most often judging by the dent in the easy chair.

As we were sitting there, all of the sudden, perfume wafted through the room, an older ladies scent. We both looked at each other in amazement more then a little scared.
On one other occasion, I heard something being dragged across the attic floor.

The weird thing is, I was never really frightened...it wasn't like she wanted to hurt me.

I've never had another experience either before of after this but I can tell you something supernatural happened in that house.

Now I'm going to go watch Halloween 4,,,

To Wondering:

According to the owner of the B&B, the ghost came to her daughter during the worst of her eating disorder. The girl was very ill, and the parents had tried everything they could think of to help her.

She said that she (the daughter) was playing the piano when the woman's ghost touched her back and told her it was good for her to eat, she could eat now. After that, the girl changed and got better. I cannot vouch for it, but it was also mentioned in the newspaper articles, including a testimony from the now adult daughter.

There were many stories about the ghost in this house, which dates to the late 17th or early 18th Century. That is, the house dates to then, the ghost has been around just since they found that box of papers in the attic.

Two years ago my family and I stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Being the planner I am I read all I could about the hotel and it's facinating history. Well it's well known to be very haunted. I had read that room 928 was haunted by Montgomery Clift. He stayed in that room while making From Here to Eternity. This hotel has something like 350 rooms but guess what room key we were handed! 928. I didn't say anything at the front desk because I didn't want to scare my daughter but I still wanted to stay in the room. I whispered to husband in the elevator that we had Monty's room , which he thought was pretty cool.
We wern't afraid or anything, but a couple of weird things did happen. The ice bucket kept showing up in different parts of the room. I asked my husband if he moved it and he said no, I guess he wanted us to fix him a cocktail. Then at night while we were sleeping twice a felt some one put their hand on my shoulder. I later found out that a lot of people who stayed in that room felt the same thing. The whole hotel has a "feeling" about it. Our waitress in the lounge told us that people were known to check out at 2 in the morning after seeing a women come out of the wall and float over their beds! She also said that it was very strange that we got room 928 without asking for it,she said it was usually booked up with Montgomery Clift fans and ghost hunter people. Oh well we were lucky I guess.

It is in Westwood. I do not remember the name of it, since the only reason we stayed there was because my cousin was having emergency work done on her house. They are all good friends, we didn't even have to pay. It was a lot of fun, we stayed in New York, then there, then went to North Truro on Cape Cod for a week--a great family vacation.

Visiting relatives in NJ who had moved into a house built in 1890, and they stated they had a ghost on the third floor, who liked to knock things over, he had fallen down the basement stairs in the 1920's and briken his neck.
The last morning of our visit I was putting on my makeup and out of the corner of my eye saw a short bald man smiling at me with a toothless grin. When I turned my head he was gone. i asked my family membedrs what their ghost looked like and they had a picture of him from some old papers they had found. I asked them to let me describe who I saw before I saw the picture, and I described him very accurrately!! He is now just a common feature of their home, to the point if you loose something just ask "Rolph" and he will leave it on the kitchen table the next day, he is usually the one who took it anyway!

I'm personally hoping to encounter a ghost on my travels, but to do so, sometimes you have to put yourself in the right place at the right time... which is why I'm going to stay at the Grove Park Inn for a night in January, just to get away from it all and relax. I've never figured out why the Travel Channel has never featured the GPI on their 'Haunted Hotels' shows because the Pink Lady is as much a part of the GPI experience as the fantastic Main Inn and the views from the terrace.

Workmen have been chased out of utility tunnels by "things" they refuse to discuss. The elevator is summoned continually to the fifth floor when there's no one there, and no place to hide and giggle if you're the type who gets your jollies by pressing elevator buttons and then fleeing like a startled deer. Guests report being patted, pinched, and tickled by unseen hands. People sleeping alone awaken to someone crawling into bed with them, and there's no one there.

And then there's the apparition: the misty image of a woman in a 1920's era pink ballgown that has been seen all over the Main Inn, from the tunnels beneath the building to the roof and everywhere in between, gliding through halls, up and down stairs, in and out of rooms, and even out on the resort golf course, which is -- also -- haunted, by the way, by a female specter in a lavender dress somehow connected to the mansion next door.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to my stay.

Yes!

In south Crete in Greece there is old venitian caste ;the Frangocastello.

In spring,at specific days at dawn you can see the Drosoulites and their horses (the christian's cavalery desperately attacking the muslim invaders) .

A quite unique experience witnessed every year by tens of locals and visitors....

I went on this ride in Disneyworld one time when I was 10, and saw in the mirror that a GHOST was sitting between my brother and I!
