Ever heard of "Beyond Expectations" Travel Club or know of any yourself?

Heard of it?

My FIL just signed up saying they were giving him a free cruise on Royal Carribbean. $199 year for membership. However, we just found out he also paid something up front to this "club" but he won't say what that fee was. My hubby and I looked on the web to find this co. and found little information, but there were some reviews of which 90% were negative. We are afraid this is a scam in that maybe he won't be able to get the "free" cruise, or something else.

Just found out people pay $3-4k and up, to join.

I consider anything like this to be a scam. At best it is false, misleading and manipulative high pressure sales. Much the same as timeshare.

When a company uses such tactics to get business it is a clear indicationt to me of what kind of people you would be doing business with.

I see plenty of online info on this by Googling, 'great expectations travel scam.' That's as far as I need to read.

dulci - Yes, we believe it's a scam and have sent my FIL links to reviews. Luckily he now says he will stop his "membership". I hope it's not hard for him to do this. He spent $4k! It's within the 72 hours they supposedly give you to opt out. We'll see how it goes. (And, if he gets his "free" cruise just for attending the seminar.)

A phone call won't leave a trail. He needs to email or maybe snail mail? Somebody else might know.

He needs to send registered, return receipt letter clearly stating he is canceling. He also should contact credit card company to dispute chare. I sure hope he didn't pay with a check...

Oh, good DebitNM! kenav mentioned on the other thread that he was was going to call, and I suspected that wasn't the best idea.

Lots and lots of complaints against this company

According to the reviews its a dating/travel service. They use hard sell tactics, charge $3-10,000 & avoid paying refunds when requested

debit - I know my FIL will be, or has, called AMEX, his CC company. I will tell him to write to the Travel Club people as you suggest.

Depending on the state in which you FIL lives, there is a deadline for how long a deal like this can be cancelled. 72 hours is often the limit. Tell FIL not to delay.

I just read your other thread. Calling the credit card company is not enough. He signed a contract. There is a set time that he can cancel. I saw the date of your OP on other board. I fear the time may have passed to cancel. Simply stopping the CC payment alone won't get him off the hook. He has signed a legal contract. I fear he needs a lawyer at this point.

Debit - He signed up on Sunday and has 72 hours to get out of it. He began the process of de-membershipping himself ( my own new word) yesterday, so that should be OK.

What state is he in? Find the correct answer, not wonder and speculate.

IF he can cancel in his state and IF he has 3 days, it is 3 business days not counting the day he signed the contract. That means he has till Wednesday. Again IF he can cancel.

Here is info on the state of Michigan for example:http://www.michigan.gov/ag/0,4534,7-...4718--,00.html

Google 'cancelling a sales contract in (state name)'.

in all cases I believe the contract he signed must include the terms and means of cancelling that he should follow.

DO NOT sign up for Beyond Expectations! My husband and I were scammed into buying into their program. They do not let you review their site till after it is too late to cancel. There are no benefits to the program. I can find cheaper deals on my own. I have written them several times with complaints but with no success.
Don't get suckered in as we did!!!!!

A relative approached us about such a scheme. An old college friend of his had found him, done a hard sell and signed him up. Run from these people! They prey on people who have little experience, but would like to travel, people who hope for cheap deals to great and wonderful exotic places.

Hope your FIL gets the money back.
