Embassy Suites, Marriot or Westin

I'm going to Maui for 5 days. Which of the three would you stay in? Which one is worth the money? The kind of room you get or the grounds of the hotel? Embassy is charging $173/night for an oceanview room, free breakfast & cocktail, Marriot is $165/night for an oceanview room or the Westin is $199 for no view. I really don't care about the beach area. Hyatt is $225 and the Sheraton is $265 (both are standard view). Help.

Be aware that Marriott is undergoing construction until next year. Has an effect on the grounds, pool, etc. They have already closed one restaurant. See previous postings about this on this forum.

All these hotels have good reps but I've heard the MOST good things about the Embassy Suites (a good friend stayed there/loved it) and the Hyatt Regency. The construction at the Marriott would bother me. I constantly hear good things about the Hyatt - and I love the grounds though I haven't stayed there because I prefer Wailea. Have a wonderful time!

Yes, I actually prefer the Wailea area as well. The Westin is supposed to be nice but the rooms are to be quite cramped I hear and not up to proper standards. The Hyatt does have better ratings. The construction at the Marriott would bother me as well and, having seen the property, I find the pool area quite crowded and full of tour groups. The Sheraton was not open yet when I was there...Ihear the pool area lacks trees, shaded areas?? Thought about lookin into the Renaissance Wailea? Their entertainment rate with buffet breakfast for 2 was about 195.00 and plain entertainment room rate was 165.00. Beautiful area, nice restaurants, many top notch hotels around...email me if interested and I can tell you how to get an entertainment card to be eligible for this rate(I have the number)Annemarie

Oops, sorry, forgot about the Embassy Suites. I love their properties as a rule and did check out the exterior of this one in Maui. The actual property is very nice but I find it is in a bad location. You will need a car for absolutely everyplace you go as you are not walking distance to any other real property. The beach there is not good and the neighbourhood is not impressive.Annemarie

Back again, chiming in with Annemarie to say do try the Renaissance Wailea unless you're absolutely set on Kaanapali for some reason. It is fabulous for the money - With their Entertainment rate, it simply cannot be beat. (And I've stayed there when the Ent. rate was not available, just because I love it!) Annemarie's post also reminded me that my good friend who stayed at Embassy Suites loved everything but the location there - wished she could have walked to some places!

My husband and I stayed at the Westin for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been happier. Not only was the hotel beautiful but the service was excellent. When we arrived at the hotel the reservation was under my married name but I used the credit card with my maiden name and the reservations person noticed and asked if we were on our honeymoon. When I told her we were, she sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room. We also had a $200 food & beverage credit during our stay that was offered by the hotel.
It was the best vacation I had and when we go back to Maui, I won't stay anywhere else.
