We are two seniors, early 70s and early 80s, good for flat, easy walks of up to two miles round trip. In mid June, we will be four days in Crested Butte, staying downtown. I am hoping for recommendations for three or four nature walks. DH is not good with elevation, so we want to keep it easy. Flying in from sea level, we will be near Colorado Springs first night after arriving at DEN, so we'll need to take it easy in Crested Butte. We are good with looking at mountains from below! Thanks for all suggestions.

The Woods Walk, easiest prettiest most scenic walk in town. There's trailhead parking on your way to Kebler Pass road in the Trapper's crossing subdivision. It walks the bench above town. Great views of Mt. Crested Butte and flat.

I'd suggest the Lower Loop but unless you have a handicapped placard and can drive all the way into the trailhead, it's a long hot walk from town to get to the actual trail, though I think it is paved. I also think the Woods walk may join up with the Lower Loop at some point, but I don't recommend going that far.

Judd Falls, It's short. moderate gains in elevation, ends at Judd Falls. Drive as far up the trailhead as possible. Turn around once you've seen Judd Falls, the trail goes on but you don't need to.

I'd suggest stopping at the tourist info at the Four Way stop and getting hiking map. or the other good place to stop and ask about easy trails is The Alpineer which is on the left just before you get to the Four Way Stop.

I am going to put Woods Walk as #1 thanks to williamscb13. We are in mid-70's so his recommendations are helpful to us.

Keep in mind that you will be at 9,000 feet - one of our highest town in CO. So if he doesn't do well with altitude be very alert for altitude sickness. Keep you liquid intake very high and walk slowly.

Thanks, westie and fmpden. The walks look beautiful, but we may end up just driving to nearby scenic places, because of the elevation issue. We are definitely open to ideas about drives to scenic views (in or near town). We are not good for twisting mountainous roads, so something simple? I like to take photographs. Thanks for all advice.

If you are feeling OK with the altitude, you should be fine with the Woods Walk. I know Brush Creek has a somewhat steep incline right at the beginning of it. And it climbs really high. I'd skip it. I'd also skip Long Lake. It's been forever since I've done it but I remember climbing up pretty high there too.

I think a drive out to Gothic at the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab could be pretty. They sometimes have talks and thing going on and I don't know if you can have lunch there, but it's worth looking up to see if anything is going on while you are in town.Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory | Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory

And I'm pretty sure anyone can go and have lunch at the Club at Crested Butte (country club/ golf course) which has a gorgeous view up the valley towards town. One of the few places to eat which actually has a view.

Thanks to all for your advice! We have returned from our trip. We did safely do two miles rt of the Woods Walk and four miles rt of the Lower Loop! We also ate at Secret Stash, The Last Steep, the Deli in the plaza (no longer called "Why Cook?"). We liked the looks of the menu at Lil's, but it was priced beyond our budget. I love the advice we get here on the forums!
