Early flight from Phoenix~Need driving advice from Sedona
Is this possible? Our flight leaves Phoenix at 7:20am. From what I can see the drive will be a 2 hr one. If we plan on being at the airport at 6:30, is this possible? Is it a dangerous drive in the dark? I really would prefer not to spend the last night in Phoenix. I can get up early enough, but I don't want to drive this if it would be foolish. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Just traveled back from Phoenix in October ... We spent our last night in the Mesa area and headed out for the airport about 6 a.m. on a Wednesday. The traffic was very heavy even at that time ... all lanes stop-and-go already. So be sure to allow for traffic. Also, if you need to return a car, you'll need to allow extra time for this as well ... There were a couple of cars ahead of us at the Thrifty drop off, then we had to wait for the shuttle to leave which then made several stops before our terminal. If you need to check luggage and your flight leaves at 7:20, it seems like you are cutting it way too close getting to the airport at 6:30 ... If the flight leaves on time, they may be boarding at about 6:50.
It seems like it may be easier to just stay near the airport for the last night rather than get up in the middle of the night for the drive. You can still spend the better part of the day into the early evening in Sedona ... Then just head to Phoenix and check in late near the airport.

Something to consider: If you're coming from Sedona, the airport is sorta on the other side of Phoenix, so you'll have to travel through a lot of traffic to get to the aiport, especially if you hit the metro area during rush hour. Factor that into your time.

As a born and raised Phoenician I really would suggest you spend that last night in Phoenix rather than make the early morning drive. If not leave Sedona no later than 3:30 am. The traffic is always heavy. Thats why I now live in upstate New York. (LOL)

Thanks Beatle,Cher, k9999, and nynvywfe. I hated to give up our last night at the resort we exchanged into so I am going to change the time on our return flight. Means we'll get in Miami around 10pm ish but at least we won't have to rush. Appreciate all your help. Thanks.
