Durango CO

When does the off-season begin? Thinking of accommodation costs.

November to just before Christmas in the fall. This is due to lack of snow etc.

Some restaurants and places will close for a bit of time in this span.

Telluride shuts down the gondola and lots of restaurants close there and some of the hotes as well.

Hope this helps.

There is not a pat answer. Depends on where you are going. For the ski resorts it is the months between end of ski season (March/April) and beginning of summer (June) and end of summer (Sept) to beginning of ski season (Nov/Dec). For Durange it is when the train stops running -- don't know that date. But accommodation costs for non-ski, non-winter sports areas will begin to decline in September with low point in Dec/Jan

Durango is a ski place and the prices are not at low point in DEC/Jan. That is one of the high points due to ski season, especially a low one.

The train is only one of many features in Durango; usually stops last weekend of October.

Mud season in spring is another off season time here. Early April to Memorial Day.

Cessnock, I went in Feb (for Valentine's Day weekend) one year and got good rates. I wasn't there to ski and I stayed in town. I'd pick the time of year you want to go and check out prices. I've been in 3 seasons - all but spring. Would that be "mud season", Debi?

Mud season is after the ski area closes - usually late March/early April. The snows melts...mud happens. This is a low season here, lots of places close for a rest after a [hopefully] long good snow season.

Truthfully, mud can be found almost all year here as can snow be found lingering til July. Snow at higher elevations [ Telluride etc] mid September is possible.

Starrs - I didn't read your post correctly. Feb is snow season.

The 4 seasons here -- like much of New England -- are: Summer (June, July August); Autumn (Sept. and October - which I think is the best season) Snow (hopefully Dec thru March) and Mud (April - May).

Hmmm, that leaves November missing doesn't it? Thanksgiving might be the 5th season.
