Can anyone recommend a duck hunting guide ? have boys 9 & 10 who have experience. They would prefer hunting in timber. will be a Christmas present for 2014. thanks.

Brother in law used to hunt in Stuttgart.

Stuttgart is very well-known for good duck hunting.

This has been a realtively bad year so far for duck hunting - at least out here on the Pacific Flyway. Either too cold up north or not enough rain/moisture to attract them, so suggest you double check in the various Arkansas area to see how they are doing and hope to do next season.

What on earth does duck hunting in CA have to do w/ Arkansas? My cousins live not far from Stuttgart and hunt in the area every season.

I live on the Oklahoma/Arkansas line. You will not have ANY problem finding ducks to kill, with or without a guide. I think most people here hunt on and around the Arkansas River. I don't agree with him, but my 18 year old neighbor killed 58 last Saturday.

58? There are limits for how many ducks can be killed on a hunt.

58 dead ducks? Holy Blasting the skies. Was it a private club?

I haven't hunted ducks in a while but here is the California limit:

"7 / day, which may include: 7 mallards no more than 2 females, 2 pintail, 2 canvasback, 2 redheads, 3 scaup.
Possession limit triple the daily bag. "

Just looked it up. The daily limit is 6 in OK. Even if there were 2 or 3 of them hunting together, obviously I disagree with him/then even more so now.

6 is the limit in AR too. Other rules, such as so many Mallards, so many hens, etc.

THAT is reprehensible, unless it is 10 people hunting.
My dear BIL is an avid duck hunter--and all it takes to make sure that hunting is continued by conservation of wetlands and everything that entails.

Gretchen, reprehensible and illegal. The duck "hunter" who bagged 58 ducks will not only lose his hunting license, but should/could get a big fine and/or worse. This is an illegal action.

Spiro- you should give the game warden a heads up on your neighbor. Disgraceful and illegal.

And ole high school classmate/teammate of mine - who still goes back to Oregon to hunt ducks/geese/pheasants with our friends - now lives in Hot Spring, Arkansas - amd he confirmed Stutgart is the place to go:

"Duck hunting is best in Stutgart Ar."

It would seem to me that almost any guide will also be "child friendly" because they love the sport and would like to share that with a kid. Also, you are paying, so just say --be good to these boys!!
I don't have first hand info but I would think there are B&Bs or lodges that cater to duck hunters, and perhaps searching for your lodging choices would gain the name of a respected guide.

Gretchen, I've lived in Arkansas for decades and know lots of duck hunters, but they all seem to hunt on either their own property or that of a friend. I've never heard of any lodges (and definitely no B&Bs because they're all in towns) that cater primarily to hunters. Most hunters use "duck camps" that are relatively primative and hunter-owned - sometimes by a group of hunters.

Well, the reason I suggested it was because DBIL did go to Stuttgart for many years to hunt. I agree with your assessment of the usual method of hunting.

I agree with you on the "child friendly" guide. Actually, there are classes for young hunters to take on gun safety, etc. My son took one decades ago, and I think most of his friends did, too. In fact, they might be mandatory for getting a license for a young hunter.
