Dubuque Restaurants

I am planning to take a group of nearly 30 (adults and children) to dinner in Dubuque on Memorial Day weekend Saturday. Anyone familiar with Dubuque restaurants who could make a recommendation or two?

I have seen the name Bishop's Buffet listed. Any opinions this place?

Thank you, thank you.

I may be able to help a bit on this but..

Give us a price range, atmosphere, etc.

Bishop's Buffet is a all you can eat, everything tastes the same feeding trough. (can you tell I'm not a buffet fan)

For a very nice dinner, I recommend Timmermans which is actually across the river in East Dubuque, IL on a bluff with an outstanding view. Reservations will be required for a group of your size. Mid range at the Midway Hotel in Dubuque is the Hoffman House Restaurant. The dog track/casino on the river also has a decent restaurant but I have not been there recently.

I'd try Timmerman's.

Almost forgot:

Spirit of Dubuque is a Cruise paddlewheel boat that has a 2 1/2 hour dinner cruise that is lots of fun for a group. Prime Rib and Chicken plus all the sides, live music, open decks. Cost is around $35.00 for an adult. Cash bar. Pretty good price for the meal and entertainment value.

Thanks for the suggestion on Timmerman's...I'll check it out.

I am not a fan of buffets either; but with children from 2 to 15, they can usually find something to their liking and I can put up with it for an evening.

Marios is an excellent italian place. There is also a Carlos O'Kelly's,(mexican) Applebee's,Golden Corral and Olive Garden for chain restaurants. Charhouse on Kennedy Rd. has good steaks. Bishops is a pretty good buffet with excellent desserts. It is an all you can for a fixed price. Timmermans and Bittersweet on the Bluff in East Dubuque are good choices.

Bishops has been around Iowa for close ot 50 years. We went there as kids. Its good food, lots of it and as mentioned before, really good desserts! It won't have the ambiance of Timmermans nor the view in all liklihood but that may not matter if you have a large group with the age range described.
