DTW-San Diego Flight $440
This is for a non-stop from Detroit-San Diego over Memorial Day Week-end is this too much. The price has not changed in 1 month, should I wait a little longer and buck up and pay now? I need to be in SAN by 2pm, this is why I have to do the non-stop.

American West can get you to SAN at 11:45am via PHX, about 45 minutes later than your NWA non-stop, and should save you about $100.
San Diego airport is right by downtown, so you should be able to get to your destination within the central areas by 2pm.

I like the SW recommendations by BeachBoi too. Since it sounds like you MUST BE in SAN by 2pm, SW gives you the earliest arrival time at SAN (10am), and the most backup plans - there aren't any with NW or American West.
If something happened to the 6:35am flight out of DTW, there are still take the 8:25am to Midway, and have TWO flights to get to SAN by 1pm.
Plus, there's a DTS-PHX flight at 7:20, which will give you THREE flights to get to SAN between noon and 1:10pm.
In short, many many flights to get to SAN from DTW in the morning in case something happens.
