We would like to see things like wineries and cheese places and zoos and aquariums.

Upstate like Saratoga and Finger Lakes are 14 degrees in February.

Any other ideas? Gambling, comedy clubs, day spas, etc are all good too!

Are you limiting to your choice to NY state ? You may want to repost with other states tagged so people who know those areas can make suggestions too.
Well in February most places in NY and New England are going to be freezing. You can't count on anyplace much warmer unless you want to fly.
Close enough to you but still cold would be Mystic CT near the casinos, spas, clubs restaurants of Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. Mystic has an aquarium though I've never been there. There are some wineries in CT but I don't know what kind of schedules they have over the winter. Newport RI is another place that's pretty open even in winter. There's some gambling there though not a full casino, and 2 or 3 wineries.
Providence has lots of stuff to do and a zoo that seems to be open so maybe combine that with Newport.

Five hours drive time from Long island isn't going to get you out of the cold weather. I can't predict what the temperature will be between February 17 and February 22 but it's a good chance it will near or below freezing (after all, it's in the dead of winter). realistically, you can drive less than 200 miles from Long Island in the 5 hours you've allotted - anywhere in that distance will have relatively the same temperatures (say plus or minus 5 degrees F.) as Long Island.

When we lived in that part of the country our winter vacations centered around skiing/snowmobiling and other "snow" related activities if we wanted to be outdoors or we stayed at a nice Bed & Breakfast near some quaint villages and towns while we browsed through nearby antique shops, craft shops, small museums, etc. and other "indoor" activities.

You'll find wineries and cheese makers in various places in upstate New York and throughout new england - most will have some type of store where you can sample and purchase their respective products. Once we settled on the area we were going to visit we did a simple google search using such topics as "Wineries near (NAME OF TOWN)" or "NAME OF STATE CheeseMakers" and we found lots of info.

Thank you for the tips so far.

We are avoiding upstate and new england areas. Thinking about New Jersey and Pennsylvania and maybe even Delaware.

this is my first time on this site...found it by using google.

OK, tagging a new post with different states is easy. After you click on the "Start a new Topic" link and enter your "Topic Title" and "Topic Message" you simply scroll down to "Section 4" and "Tag" you post with the states you want to list.

Now, if you are interested in New Jersey or Pennsylvania consider visiting the "New Hope, PA/Frenchtown, NJ area. Lots of nice Bed & Breakfasts there with many quaint villages and town nearby for you to explore - no gambling, however.

Also look at the Poconos or Amish Country in Pennsylvania you my find visiting those area to be quite interesting.

Those areas won't be much different, temperature wise, from Long island, though!

For gambling consider Atlantic City, NJ although there's really not much else to do there in winter. Further South is the quaint town of Cape May, NJ. You could base yourselves there and drive to Atlantic City for your gambling fix.

You could drive from mid-Long Island to Washington, DC in about 5 hours. Weather will be about the same as Long Island. file there visit the various museums of Smithsonian Institute, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the US Treasury and a host of other points of interest that deal with our nations history plus you'll have plenty of restaurants, night clubs and comedy clubs to keep you busy in the evenings.

Have you been out to the east end of LI? Riverhead has an aquarium; vineyards and cheese places in the Hamptons and the North Fork and then you could take a ferry to Ct. and visit Bridgeport, Mystic etc.

Even if as far south as DC, you can expect the same cold (maybe snow) weather. But if you haven't been, DC and environs would be great... a little bit of everything.
