Driving to N.England from NY
What are the best places to go to find out what roads are the best ones to take driving from NY through the New England states? Other than AAA...I'll be going during leaf peeper time and I'm a female traveling alone by car. I'll be staying at whatever hotels I find along the way and although I know there are probably MANY different roads one can take, I'd like to contact someone who can provide the best maps so that I won't go nuts trying to figure out where I am and where I'm going. Thank you.

I'd primarily like to see Providence or Warwick or Newport, Rhode Island.
for Connecticut, maybe Hartford - HadLyme.
Then of course just Boston and the Cape.
I'd like to take the highways to my destination then the scenic routes once there, but I don't know what the scenic routes are in the different smaller cities.

The direct route to everywhere you've mentioned, except Hartford (too much out of your way from the other sites you mentioned), is via Route 95, an admittedly ugly road! Fortunately, you can start off from New York by taking the more scenic Hutchinson River Parkway, which becomes the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut (Route 15) until you get to Exit 54 in Milford and transfer over to I-95 (Connecticut Turnpike). Hadlyme is Exit 69 (Route 9) off I-95. Make sure you stop at nearby Essex as well. Then, get back on I-95 and follow it all the way to Providence. (If you want to go to Newport instead, you'd probably take Exit 3 off I-95 in Rhode Island.)
Continuing on to Cape Cod from Providence you take I-195. From the Cape to Boston, it's Route 3 to I-93 into Boston.
No one can pass along the scenic routes until you decide exactly what sights you want to see!
