Driving to Boston
My wife and I are planning on taking several days to drive from the midwest to Boston,Ma. We would like suggestions on routes, and attractions in Upstate New York, Vermount, New Hampshire,and Maine. Also, any suggestions on the Boston area.

When will you be coming? Spring? Fall? Summer?
If fall then looking for foliage will probably be high on your list.
If summer - beaches maybe, a harbor tour, Red Sox game?
Springtime brings the Boston Marathon, opening day, graduations, swan boats in the Public Garden in Boston, lots of mud in the mountains.
If you could give us a better idea of what you are looking for there are many knowledgible posters who are residents of the area and are only too happy to helf out.

Hi John,
Here is a suggested route for you.
From the Albany/Troy NY area, enter Vermont via NY Route 7. In Vermont, the route # changes to Route 9. You go through Bennington, which has many historic sites you can stop at. Be sure to take the elevator to the top of the Battle Monument for some great views. From Bennington, head north on Route 7A to Manchester. In Manchester, you can visit Hildene,the summer home to Robert Todd Lincoln. If you like outlet shopping, then you'll like Manchester. From Manchester head east on Route 11 to Londonderry. In Londonderry, pick up Route 100 north. Follow Route 100 North all the way til it intersects with Route 15. Route 100 through the heart of the Green Mountains, and through many beautiful small villages. Be sure to stop at Ben & Jerry's just south of Stowe if you're an ice cream fan! Once you hit Route 15 a little north of Stowe, follow 15 East to Route 2 East. Pick up I-93 south in St. Johnsbury and follow it for about 20 miles into NH to Route 302 east. Follow 302 to the Mount Washington Valley. Hope for a clear day as the views of the mountains are incredible! 302 will take you through North Conway (yet another outlet mall mecca) and eventually on to Portland ME. From portland, turn south and visit Kennebunk, Ogunquit, York, and Portsmouth NH. From here, it's a clear shot down I-95 to the Boston area.
Once in Boston, park your car and leave it-trust me, you won't need it, nor would you want to drive around the city. Public transportation is safe and plentiful. www.mbta.com
