You might want to book the Venetian. The rates MIGHT go down - but they MIGHT go up as well. if $149 fits in your budget I think I'd book.

TOTALLY off topic - but I LOVE your screen name. I'm a Californian but I lived in the UK for 5 years and had never seen hedge hogs before (real ones that is - only in childrens' books). I discovered a family of hedge hogs lived at the bottom of our garden. I had a cat and two dogs so I was terrified I'd find a dead present on the door step. But no. I love hedge hogs

Thanks Janis, I love hedgehogs too (obviously). Perhaps I'll kick off a thread on the Nevada 'site' about the Venetian rate and see if other Vegas regulars think I should book now. Being the eternal bargain hunter that I am I would be more than a little unhappy if the rate went down although of course I would be equally upset to miss a rate of $149 if it got withdrawn! Uh oh, I've got to take a gamble already and i haven't even reached Vegas yet! Thanks again.

I would think twice about a cacellation fee based res at $149. Someone claims to have just gotten Venetian for $79 via priceline this past week. Depends on the convention load in April, too. I've seen offers of $99 many a time but $79 is the lowest.

I was going to suggest Hedgehog consider priceline too. If you look at biddingfortravel.com it seems that the Venetian will often offload midweek inventory for $79-$99 per night, but only within 2 weeks of the dates. If you can wait that long, priceline might be a good option.

Check w the Venetian regarding construction at the hotel. They are building a new section and the lower priced rooms will undoubtedly feature a 5am wakeup call of hammering and drilling.

Thanks for the info joesource. I just received an email today from the Venetian offering a pay-everything-up front-rate of $119 for the dates we need. Perhaps I'll try to reserve by telephone and see if they will guarantee a suite away from the construction work.
