Driving time: Williamsburg to Nags Head

We will be traveling from Williamsburg to Augusta. Is it worth the extra time to travel South to Nags Head and then over to Raleigh? Is it interesting and worth the extra time? (How long will it take?) OR should we go west from Williamsburg and then south on 195??? Thanks for your help.

Williamsburg to Nags Head, NC is 126 miles or 2.5 hours. Nags Head back to Rocky Mount, NC is 156 miles or 3.5 hours. No freeway for most of this stretch.

Williamsburg to Rocky Mount, NC via I-64/I-295/I-95 is only 163 miles, or 2.5 hours.

So, you're adding a good 3.5 hours to get to the Outer Banks. It's an interesting area if you have to time to visit - but just for driving through? No way.

It is definately worth the side trip, but leave some time to do things along the way. Between Williamsburg and the Outerbanks is the Norfolk/VA Beach area more more things to see and do.
