Driving Time - Fort Worth to Destin, FL

Hi,
I'm getting conflicting information on how long the drive is from Fort Worth to Destin Florida. I've been told around 10 hours, but then yesterday, our newpaper reported it as a 14 hour drive. Has anyone personally driven this route? If so, how did you go (which interstates) and how long did it take you to drive it? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Destin is not on my pocket size Atlas but it took me 12 hours to drive to Pensacola. That was with normal eating and bathroom stops--no sightseeing, etc.

We used to drive from Plano to Destin each summer, about 12-13 hrs. We took I-20 to Jackson then diagonally across MS on 49 and 98 to Mobile, then I-10 to 98 in Pensacola, 98 to Destin. DH had family in MS with whom we spent one night, making a short drive into Destin the next morning.

At that time I-49 through LA wasn't complete. You may be able to shave some time taking I-49 from Shreveport, picking up I-10 west of Baton Rouge, I-12 from BR to east of NO, then I-10 again on over to Pensacola.

Be *sure* to time your drive to miss rush hour around the Metroplex which could easily add 1 1/2 hrs to your trip. Returning home we somehow always hit LBJ and Central Xpwy. just as an EDS shift let out...adding immensely to both time and frustration levels!

We just drove from Edmond, OK (north suburb of OKC) to Panama City in February. Took us 14 1/2 hours. From Ft. Worth, should be appx. 11 hours. We took I-20 to Jackson, MS then angled down SE on 49 and 98. Made mistake of taking 98 all the way from Mobile to Panama City, lots of traffic and stop lights. Get on I-10 and then go south into Destin to avoid the traffic. This trip was much faster than when we drove it in 1993 due to higher speed limits and improved highway in Mississippi.

I totally agree with the Jackson route, missing Louisiana altogether.

I drove through Louisiana going and was not happy. It's been a few years ago so it might be different but at the time you would be on the interstate and the next thing you knew you were stopping at a red light in the middle of every little town.

I enjoyed the scenery through Mississippi better too.
