Driving San Antonio to Brownwood

We are going to Brownwood for a wedding this week-end (the Brownwood with Lake Brownwood, I think there are a couple of Brownwood's in TX). we are flying into San An to check it out and then driving to Brownwood and then driving from Brownwood to Dallas on Sunday. Any tips on driving this trip? We have a Triple AAA trip tik but I thought I would ask Fodorites for their tips.
thanks.

What kind of tips are you looking for? Best route? Road conditions? Attractions?

Anyways, I'd take I-10 west, US87 North and then US377 North. Fredericksburg is definitely worth stopping at.

And even though most of the route is non-freeway, speed limit is still 70MPH outside of towns. Traffic should not be a problem.

There is only one Brownwood in Texas. (There are other towns named Brownfield and Brownsville, though.) ;-)

The route that RKKawn gives you from SA to Brownwood is fine. Fredericksburg is definitely a good place to stop, as are any of the little towns in the Hill Country along your way! The drive is through (IMHO) the prettiest part of Texas.

From Brownwood to Dallas, you can take 67 all the way in to the west side of Fort Worth. It is also a very good road, and there are plenty of places to stop along the way.

It is going to be HOT this weekend!! Think loose, cotton clothes...

I think if you're going directly to DFW airport, then it's going to be faster and better to jump onto I-20. Either via US183 from Brownwood, or US67/377 then US281.

For Dallas or places in the SE of the Metroplex, then US67 is fine.
