Driving from Vegas to LA on Thanksgiving weekend
Hi
We are planning to drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on the Thanksgiving weekend ( Sat 26 Nov).
Can anyone recommend the best route for this ?
Are we likely to run into heavy traffic on the Sat - am or pm.
Thanks for your help.

I think Sat. will be the best day to drive this route on Thanksgiving weekend. We have driven it on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after TG and both were busy, busy. We wouldn't even think of doing it on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Best route is to come into the LA Area on I-15 and then take whatever freeway in the LA Area takes you to where you are going.

We were driving from Bakersfield to Barstow on the Saturday after Thanksgiving a couple of years ago and the west bound traffic was bumper to bumper. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving we were driving from Barstow towards Las Vegas and the highway was a THREE LANE PARKING AREA going west towards Los Angeles! Thank heavens we were going east! The traffic back up made it's way almost ALL the way to Vegas!

Leaving Vegas Saturday morning you should have no trouble. But check the morning news/traffic report before you hit the road, it's always possible that there is some massive pile-up stalling trafic for hours, no need to head into that if you can avoid it. Note that early Saturday morning might also be a good time to find a cheap $59 flight from LV to LAX or better yet LV to Burbank airport. Check with jetblue.com or southwest.com
