Driving from Lake Tahoe to Napa...

I will be driving Oct. 10th from Lake Tahoe to Napa Valley!

Any recommended sites to see on the way?

Any advice or things I should be aware of?

We are vacationing the week in Tahoe and then staying the weekend in Napa. We have been to Napa before, but haven't driven.

Thanks for any Fodorite advice!

The thing I might want to do is avoid afternoon commute traffic. Since you will be driving on a Friday you may be setting yourself up for some annoying Sacto area traffic if you stop too long on your way to Napa. Sacto area traffic backs up in several directions as people leave the down town area. So even though you are heading east you still may get caught up in some of it around 4ish.

Are you leaving from North Shore or South Shore? That will determine your route and which sites to see along either Hwy 80 or Hwt 50.

Thank you for the traffic tip! We will plan accordingly.

We will be leaving from South Shore.

Thank you! 8-)

On your way west on 50 before you get to Placerville you could stop off in Camino and check out Apple Hill. October is a great month to visit:
