Driving from Greenville, SC to Williamsburg, VA: what to do
I'll be driving with my two sons from Greenville, SC to Williamsburg, VA for the holidays. It's approximately an 8 hour drive and would like to break it up and stay one night along the way. Looking for a charming town or place of interest for the children if anyone has any suggestions.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill.
Room to run on campus, lots of kid oriented food (college kids are just big kids), home of 2012 National Basketball Champions. Charming tree-lined streets. Statues. Museums.
You didn't say which holidays or how old the children are, but my kids loved it when I was in grad school and then teaching there later, and they were elementary school then. How much did they love it? They both went to college there as out of state students.

Stop in Charlotte and go to Discovery Place's new mummy exhibit plus the museum (hands on science) itself. It is truly a great stop for them. Then there is Winston Salm and Old Salem which would be terrific at holiday time. At LEAST stop by Winkler Bakery and get some hot Moravian sugar cake and a couple of loaves of bread.
Chapel Hill, yes, "maybe". run around like the big kids. (and we have had some go there too).
The zoo is VERY good.
Raleigh's art museum is excellent. I don't know what their exhibit might be.
