Driving a rental car into Canada?

I'll be renting a car in Buffain July and plan to drive into Canada. While the best weekly rates can be found online, I am worried that when I show up at the rental desk in Buffalo, I'll be told I can't take the car across the border (at least at the rate I paid, or they will pressure me into buying a costly insurance waiver).
Priceline offers no guarantees on this. It says only "ask the rental agent when you check in about policy regarding travel into Canada."
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.

Hi,

Each auto rental company has different conditions and rules.

Priceline advises you the rental company only after you have paid for it, which is too late as that company may not allow you to take the car into Canada.

Infact some companies only allow their cars to be taken into 2-3 neighboring states within the USA.

I have found Buffalo rates to be way higher than Detroit, just a thought.

Your best bet is to book on the internet or expedia.com. Good luck

Thank you for your comments. I'm afraid I'm stuck renting in Buffalo (flying in from San Diego), but I think I'll avoid renting from Priceline to avoid getting stuck.
Anybody else have similar experiences?

I rented from Hertz in Seattle and they allowed the car to be drived into British Columbia. I think (but am not certain) that Hertz in Vancouver doesn't allow cars into the US.

Hertz in Detroit allows cars into Canada. So does Hertz in upstate New York.

Priceline often uses Budget. Occasionally, it's Avis. If your trip depends on it, then you should rent from a company and not through Priceline. Use the website and call the company directly (either through reservations or the local office in Buffalo or both).
