Driving- LA- San Fransisco- Las Vagas- LA- PLEASE HELP

Hi! My boyfrined and I will be hiring a car in La and driving to San Fransisco then to Vagas and back to LA. How long will each leg of the journey take?
Are we likley to get lost? (we're from Australia)
Are there any places of interest on the way? Any other info?
Thank you for any help or advice you can give.
Michelle.

Great trip. Straight driving on the LA-SF leg should be about 7-9 hrs. But you should stop lots of places along the way. Venice Beach, Santa Barbara, the Hearst Castle (San Simeon), Monterey, Carmel all are worth seeing.

Can't help you regarding the other legs of your planned trip, but good luck, and enjoy. Some day I'll get to your land.

Hi Michelle,

From L.A. to Vegas you go straight east on the 10 Freeway (for about 40 minutes) to the 15 Freeway north, then it's about another 4 hours to Vegas. Actually, from the beach it takes me 4-1/2 hours to cross the border of Nevada (and the first casinos!) and that includes stopping to eat. Plan on it being about 100 degree weather!! There is NOTHING to see between here and Vegas. How long are you staying there...do you have hotel? Budget?
This is a good site to fill you in on casinos:
http://virtualvegas.com/airport/vegas/casinos.html
and this is a site for the top 100 things to do while there:

If I can be of further help, email me!
Jane

Thanks DJ and Jane for the info. I am still not sure how long between San Fransisco and Las Vagas, hopefully someone else can help with this. I have found quite a few diiferent sites on Vagas which is helpful but I'm not sure about Accommodation in San Fransisco. A friend just got back and said it took for ever to find a room- not a very nice one at that.I've heard that I will have no trouble getting a room in Vagas. Only 7 weeks now till I go and I can't wait! thanks again Michelle

The drive between LA and SF is about 400 miles, you could do it in one day but I suggest you take your time and enjoy the spectacular scenery.Leave early in the morning from LA and take the scenic Pacific Highway, this will give you time to stop at San Simeon and visit Hearst Castle that day, stay in the area for the night. Next morning head north toward SF and enjoy the spectacular scenery of Big Sur as the mountains meet the the Pacific Ocean (awesome views).
