Drive to LA to Sanfrancisco

Hi there,
My boyfriend and i were thinking about it driving to San francisco over a period of about 7-8 days and probably fly back at the end of the trip. We would like to take a very leisurely trip and stop by at all the places that are worthwhile. We're up for anything.. but i'm just not sure what would be considered worthwhile.. can anyone help??
any suggestions would be REALLY great.. thanks!

Malibu, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Winchester House, Hearst Castle would be on my personal list.

Were you going to spend any time in San Francisco and/or Los Angeles? Or is it all about the drive...

Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey Bay and the Aquarium would be on my list. I'd also drive along the coast north of San Francisco to Mendocino.

In the Central Coast area I would add the Santa Ynez Valley wine country (Sideways movie). Visit the La Purisima mission, Los Olivos, Pismo Beach, Guadalupe Dunes or one of the other beaches near Lompoc/Vandenburg.

I also like Asilomar State Beach, Point Lobos and Pacific Grove.

oh missions! good suggestion. any of the many historic California missions would make great stops along the way.

If you do a search on this board (the search box above), and type in things like Monterey, Big Sur, Cambria, Santa Cruz, you will get a ton of good information. This is a very popular drive because there is so much great coastal scenery and a lot of cool towns along the way.
