drive over mt. road?

On the 18th anniversary of Mt. St. Helens we saw a car go over the mt. and roll down about 50ft. and then stop upside down on a tree that had gone over with the volcano. Needless to say this freaked me out! I am wondering how often this happens on mt. roads....by the way, the family crawled up to the road safely!

Sometimes when you stop and look over, you see cars that are quite old that are way down....assuming that they have been there for awhile. There must be a story to each one!

In India some of the mt. bridges are propped up with oil drums. That will take years off when you notice that, while sitting in a mini-bus packed with people!

In Colorado I saw a RV scrape the side of the mt. all the way down...because he ignored the no longer than 24 ft. signs!

I don't understand why guard rails are not in place on some of the more dangerous heights! I have seen cars hung up on a tree way below, also.

After 2 cross country road trips, the most important thing I need to remember when driving downhill on a mountain road is to downshift and not ride your brakes. Let your engine do the braking, it is so much easier driving this way. In Leadville, CO, I saw a semi overturn. Thankfully the side of the mountain was not that steep and the truck didn't crash down to the valley!
