Drive from Quebec to Boston - help with lodgings

We are coming over to Canada in August and will eventually be driving from Quebec to Boston.

On the maps it looks like there is a scenic route to take.

Can anyone recommend a good route through the mountains and a good place to stay at around half distance ? We can see that we can probably make the beach but would it be better to stay inland ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First, are you thinking about I-91 or US201?

Taking rte 20 to rte 55 in Canada, and then rte 91 in Vermont to rte 93 in New Hampshire is the easiest route, and very, very scenic. You could stay anywhere from Littleton to Bethlehem, to Lincoln NH. There are lots of motels and inns in this area. Lincoln is actually fairly built up, with many motels and restaurants. However it is also at the start of the very scenic Kancamagus highway.

Thank you all for your replies.

We have not decided on a particular route but were looking for general guidance, which, thanks to you all, we now have.

The next stage is to investigate in more detail. If we have any more queries, I am sure we will avail ourselves again of this brilliant resource that is Fodors Talk.
