Drive from Chicago to Eureka Spring Ar

Looking for ideas to make this annual drive a little more fun. Will break the drive up into two days and would love to hear all suggestions about exciting things on the way. Missouri seems especially interesting, would the Ozarks be a good adventure?

I have not been to the Lake of the Ozarks for a couple of years now. It used to be an annual trip. I always enjoyed the great restaurants as well as the shopping at the outlet mall and the many smaller novelty shops. The views of the lake are really lovely as well. The area has probably changed a little bit in the past two years since I was last there, but I much prefer the Lake of the Ozarks over Branson.

We are actually staying at Devil's Den state park but are going to drive up to Eureka for a little spa/shopping break.

Since your a local, do you have some tips on resturants/spas etc? We've been to Eureka a few times for the shopping but would love to actually have inside info on what the locals love to do there.

spill those secrets!!

there are quite a few spas to choose from in eureka springs...but i would have to recommend the palace spa and bath house. it's the most unique of them all. nothing fancy...just everything done the way it was 100 years ago.

as far as dining...there are so many choices! but truly...shhh...the locals have a few favorites. you'll find us at sparky's which is a fun, eclectic place featuring over 100 beers and the best burgers and steaks in town. also lots of swell mexican food. they have a gigantic covered deck that's always lively. ermilio's is a nice italian place in an old house...mix and match pastas and sauces. also cafe soleil which serves a little bit of everything in a charming setting. all of these restaurants are very casual....it's where you'll find the locals.

have a great trip!
