Dress code in "nicer" restaurants?

Hi...we will be in Maui in two weeks, and have planned to dine at Pacific'o, David Paul's, and Pineapple Grill, among others.

I keep reading about how Maui is such a "casual" island, but have never been there - only to Oahu. I am wondering what type of evening wear you will see ladies wearing at those types of restaurants? (I am in my early 30s).

I am used to dressing up a bit for dinner at places of that caliber, but am not sure what the norm is on Maui.

Any advice or examples would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I would recommend sundress or slacks for you and khakis and aloha shirt (or other short sleeve collar shirt) for any males in your group. Most places are very relaxed about dress codes but I would hesitate to wear jeans or shorts...

Ditto. sundress, sandals, nice slacks, skirt, but not shorts or jeans. easy! And leave the hose and the nice jewelry at home.

I believe this is what they refer to as "resort casual." For women, it's a lot easier, because a pretty sundress will usually do the trick. For men, I think a Tommy Bahama-esque shirt and slacks will be just fine. I rarely see men with sportcoats or suits at restaurants in Hawaii - unless it's required at some corporate dinner or formal dinner. But, just an evening out, I doubt he'll have to don a sportcoat.

While visiting Maui over the summer, we had the single best meal we have EVER had a Pacific'O. Our table was literally steps from the sand and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

We were concerned about our attire. My wife wore a nice sun dress and flat sandals. I had on a nice Tommy Bahama silk shirt, very nice walking shorts and leather sandals. We fit in perfectly.
