Dream Weekend in Ohio!

I've posted about Glenlaurel in Southeastern Ohio before but wanted to send along another recommendation! My husband and I visited Glenlaurel (www.glenlaurel) in December and spent another amazing weekend. It is a Scottish retreat/resort that sits on 200 acres of walking trails. Glenlaurel has cottages, crofts (small cottages), and suites. I visited several suites and crofts while there - the suites are huge and beautiful with a jucuzzi tub and fireplace. The crofts and cottages have two rooms, a private deck, and outdoor hot tub on the deck. The great thing about the crofts and cottages is that they overlook a valley and from the back deck, you cannot see any other cottages - completely isolated. Breakfast is included and is delicious - terrific coffee, warm scones, pancakes, eggs benedict, etc. The service is exceptional - there is music playing in your bedroom upon arrival. If you live in the Midwest or even within an 8 hour drive, this place is worth the trip. I left feeling completely energized and at peace.

Did you walk on any of the trails at Glenlaural? We have been on the main ones in Hocking Hills and really enjoyed them and drove into Glenlaural and it looks really peaceful, but wondered what the trails were like on the premises. My husband prefers to walk on trails that have a destination (such as waterfalls, views, etc.). Thanks for the report.

Do you, by any chance, work at a Pharm store? My daughter works at one in Maumee.

Unfortunately I was not able to go on the trails because we were there in December (i.e., too cold). But I've seen pictures from the trails and it looks beautiful. I believe there are many destinations - but the other Hocking Hills trails are a very short drive away.

*And no, I don't work at a Pharm store.

Too cold ?!!? Having grown up in the area that is the first time I have ever heard that. Hocking Hills it at its finest when the waterfalls are frozen & there is ice everywhere. You don't know what you are missing. They also have the annual Winter Hike in January that goes from Old Mans Cave to Ash Cave via Cedar Falls. 6 miles of awesome sights. I make it a point to visit there every year when I am home for XMas as well.

But beware, the estate at Glenlaurel, according to their website, is totally smokefree. Unfortunately that means I'd have to leave DH at home - which would remove a wee bit of the romance from the experience, wouldn't it? Well, maybe someday ------

In response to the weather question, yes it was definiely too cold for me. Had a cracked rib from a basketball accident (collided with hubby) and the cold weather made the pain worse. That's what I get for lacking coordination on the court!

Glenlaurel is horrible. They are a very unethical business. My fiancee reserved their location for a wedding. Early on, we were very impressed. The facility is nice. But be warned. They are under new ownership. They are very unethical. They sent us a letter and attempted to more the double their prices after we already had quotes and a verbal agreement and had reserved the location. They also verbally harassed our caterer, among other things. I filed many complaints, including with the Better Business Bureau. I would highly recommend choosing a different establishment in the Hocking Hills.
