Don't Tell Mama -- NYC cabaret
Tried to post this several days ago, but guess it went into cyberspace. Can anyone tell me about the Don't Tell Mama cabaret on 46th in NYC? Often eat after shows in that area and have wondered what the cabaret is like. How late are the shows?? Fun? Need advance tickets? I see in New York magazine that there is a $10 cover and 2 drink minimum, pretty cheap for New York. Does that mean it's not very good??

i don't know if this is too late for you but don't tell mama is a great place to go. No strippers but tons of talent, as good as anything you will see or hear on b-way. This place runs the full gamit. Show tunes, pop, oldies, Cole Porter etc..... do yourself a favor and go there a good time.

Thanks Mike, but yes it was too late. We're back from New York and never went. But the real problem was that their last show was always at 11:00. We never got out of the theatre until almost that time and then ate dinner. I had hoped for a midnight or later show. We did pop in for a minute after dinner at Joe Allen's one night (about 12:15 and they said we could sit at the piano bar, but that didn't do much for us. But I will say it still seemed better than seeing strippers -- dead or alive.

What in the world is it about Don't Tell Mama. I shouldn't even post this, as it is one of my favorite "secret" spots in NYC, but I can't believe what I have read here. If you are referring to the cabaret shows that are ticketed there, I can't comment. BUT, the piano bar is one of the last great finds in NYC in my opinion. And, no, it doesn't close after theatre. In fact, many theatre people (broadway performers included) come there specifically because it's open after theatre/dinner. I have walked out at 4 a.m. many times, full of the REAL broadway/cabaret experience.
NEVER have I been disappointed. Especially after seeing a show and stuffing myself at Becco or another theatre district trough.
Whoever these other people are who don't "get it" about DTM are just plain WRONG.
(P.S. I usually stay at the Paramount, so I can stumble home at 4 a.m. and still catch my flight out without a problem.)
