Does anyone agree there should be a Hawaii ONLY Message Board?

It seems that over 50% of the messages on the US board pertain to Hawaii. Though I do love the islands it seems that it would be helpful for everyone for it to have it's own place.

We need a separate Portland OR board so you-know-who goes away.

Where did you study math?
As of 5:22 only 4 of the top 50 messages had anything to do with Hawaii!
This topic comes up from time to time, but frankly I think your timing is way off. There haven't been THAT many posts for Hawaii lately.

The majority of the Hawaii posts start with either:

"Honeymoon Help!"

or

"Which Two Islands"

or (and this applies to Alaska)

"Itinerary Help"

And.....according to jor, the majority of the posts on the US Board are about cruising anyway

Same old, same old. This request appears with regularity every 6 months or so. (Frankly, I think it's a good idea!)

12 out of the last 100 posts. Unless my math is rusty that's 12% not 50.

Yes, yes, yes!

The first 50 messages were all Hawaii when I just signed on. I thought perhaps I had clicked "Hawaii" by mistake, but hadn't.

I've had this happen a few times in the past, too.

If all 50 posts were for Hawaii, then let me assure you that was another recent "fluke" here. Sometime we are being given someone's search list or specific areas. The other day on the Europe board all 50 posts were about EurRail, and then I saw they were dated over a period of about 6 months. Somehow when I logged on I got a specific search list I hadn't asked for.

To my knowledge there has never been a time when all 50 first messages were Hawaii, and I doubt if even half of them. On the other hand I'd suspect there have been times when half of them have been about California, or possibly about New York. It seems some areas go in cycles here.

From what I see, all USA messages go into a large folder. You can then click on state subfolders.

Hawaii, California, Florida and a few others are probably going to be the most active folders (especially when its cold!)

Truth be known, I don't understand why so many post questions about a specific area into the general USA folder. If someone wants to know what Miami Beach is like in February, shouldn't it be posted into the Florida folder?

I think there was a Hawaii only board for a while a few years ago, or am I confusing Fodors with another site?

you've got it backwards, Sesamee. all messages in the usa forum go into the same bucket. individual state names essentially serve as search words to filter through the bucket.

Thanks for pointing that out about the message 'bucket'.

I agree then. There should be not only a Hawaii forum, but also California, Las Vegas and Florida forums (to pin point a few).

Sesamee,
I agree. Also, Paris might want their own board instead of residing with the rest of the Europe board.

We'll always have Yountville! ><

I got all Las Vegas posts once.

Requests for various locations seem to go in spurts.

Remember about 2 yrs ago it seemed to be all New Orleans...then San Antonio....then Chicago was hot for awhile.

I just kick back and read a few of 'em because you never know if one will pique your curiosity and make you want to go there....unless of course it's the Oregon Coast.

The boards change with the seasons. You'll see summer vacations, then holiday trips, then spring break and so on. Every once and a while things go wacky and the posts come up strangely. Most likely that is what happened to you.

Seems that the "area" of posting a thread i.e. Hawaii or U.S.; is about the same as the amount of research one doe on that subject before posting.

Hi Fodorites, this morning when I clicked on the US Board I was totaly confused as none of the post made sense. Then I realized I was getting threads and post regarding Asia.

I clicked on the "Talk" and then clicked on the US and consequently the threads all pertained to US subjects.

Fodors still seems to be acting up now and again.
