Do you have suggestions on my first roadtrip South-West USA?

After visiting Yosemite last summer, I will never drive at night again. On my way back to Fish Camp, a piece-o-crap RV caught fire near Mariposa Grove and all cars had to turn around. I was only 20 minutes from the hotel and ended up spending over 3 hours to get back. It certainly was a memorable experience.
