Disney World In August, What to Expect
My family and I have planned a trip to Disney in August (the only time of year I can get away in 1998). What should we expect in terms of heat and crowds? What can we expect from the Coranado Springs Resort? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Disney in August, expect HEAT!!! It was so humid. I went there last August, and I was surprised, but it was crowded. Bring plenty of water to walk around the parks with. Be sure to check out the electric parade in the Magic Kingdom. We got there at the tail end on the first day and had to go back the next day to see it all. The crowds gather about 2-3 hours before the parade to get a good seat. If you don't, you (and especially your kids) can see very much. It is worth the wait, though. I don't know about the resort you are mentioning, sorry. Hope this helps a little.

What to expect. In two words CROWDS!! HEAT!! I think the crowds are the worst! Heat can be handled but the crowds are frustrating. Spend lots of time at the Water parks. They are fun, fun, fun!! expecially when it's hot, hot, hot!! We will be staying a Coronado Springs too, but in Dec. I have heard it is very nice. Great pool for kids. Make sure you take advantage of the early admission. Then switch parks at 11:00 or 12:00. Mabey take a swim in the middle of the day, either at your hotel or a water park. Have a wonderful time at my favorite destination. Cori

Heat, humidity and bugs. And more heat and humidity...and crowds. Children are off from school, so families come, even though August in Florida is miserable. My suggestion is to stay indoors as much as possible (with air conditioning) bring plenty of sunblock, a hat and drinking water.

I suggest you go early in the am. and plan to "take a break" between 11:00 and 3:00. go back to the hotel and swim, etc.
Plenty of water (or bring powdered drink mix in tupperware type drink containers and add water at the park).
It's awfully hot but it's still the best place in the world to vacation.
Join AAA, if not a member, you can get discounts on tickets to disney etc.

Was there the first part of Aug last year myself.
As mentioned before, HOT as @#$%25 and crowded. Also
expect thunder showers every night..they can be heavy
at times.. Doesn't stop anything though, except the water
parks. They sell cheap ponchos everywhere..
HOT..crowded or wet..still the greatest place to
spend a week!!

August in Florida is EXTREMELY HUMID AND HOT. The thermometer may be in the mid 90's, but with the 80%25 humidity you get soaking wet. I visited the desert in Arizona and overheard someone say that it was 105 degrees outside...I did not believe them, because it felt so much cooler than Florida's 85 degree heat with high humidity. You could wear the same clothes for more than one day in the desert...not so in Florida, you are drenched in an hour. While in the Orlando area, make sure that you visit Sea World. Our family enjoyed it as much or better than Disney.
Expect afternoon thunderstorms everyday. Have fun, hope you enjoy Florida.

You will enjoy the Coronado Springs resort...it is a true resort, several pools, hot tubs, gym, lake, bike paths, very large, clean, with all the amenities...it is located near Blizzard Beach which is a "cool" water park...the various parks are all opened late during August and if you will be there several days, I suggest you go to the parks about 4:00 PM or later and stay until the parks close and you can catch the various fireworks displays...it will still be hot, humid, and crowded but not as hot as earlier. Do not go to Sea World during Aug. Hotter than Disney!!!

We've been to Disney in July, August, November and January. The best thing to do in August is go to the parks in the AM, then hit the hotel for lunch and a swim and then go back in the evening. We went to the Coronado for dinner last summer...a lot of the hotel rooms were still under construction, and my impression was that the pool area was quite a distance from the main building. It looked like a very nice hotel, very Disney! We've stayed at Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans, Dixie Landings, All-Star Sports and the Wilderness Lodge. Without a doubt the Wilderness Lodge is tops. Lots of money, but definitely worth it. If you can, make sure you go there for dinner one night. It's wonderful! Even if you can't do dinner, go just to see the place. Absolutely magnificient!!!!!

I read what all the other people had to say about Disney and since I have been there four times and one time for two weeks straight I though I would tell you my opinion. My son and I went together all these times and we have stayed at the Yacht and Beach Club, and other resorts there. They are all nice. The Coronado Resort will be great because when ever Disney opens a new resort it is always very very nice. It is hot in August but you get used to it. Most people spend time in the pools or lakes when they get hot. I never broke water with me because it is a pain to carry and when I got thristy I just got something to drink at all the various stands. The night time is the nicest because it is so beautiful with all the lights. Make sure you take the ferry on the lake by Magic Kindom at night it is relaxing. At Port Orleans try the Begnet's a delicious dougnut. The World Showcase is beautiful and try the French Bakery. The sit down Mexican Restaurant is great try the chicken mole. Sports are endless and the water parks are great, but very crowded. The hotel pools are also very nice. It is a great time and as far as I am concerned Sea World is no comparison because their is a part of Epcot with lots of marine life. I think you need at least a week to see the outskirts of Disney World and alot longer to see it all. Also try the buffets at the Contemporary and the resorts restaurants are better then in Magic Kingdom and MGM. Epcots showcase lagoon has good restaurants also and alot to choose from. Have a great trip.
