Disney World in a day?

I was thinking about visiting WDW while we are in Florida this spring. We are not big Disney fans, but thought while we were down there we might go for just a day, maybe 2 days. I haven’t been to WDW since I was a kid and that was before EPCOT was built!!! Anyway, I was hoping for some advice on what to see if we only have a day or two.

What you'd have to do is read up about the different parks at WDW and decide which one(s) you want to see. EPCOT, The Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, plus several water parks are offered.

My personal favorite is EPCOT. Even EPCOT is divided into 2 sections! The World Showcase highlights some of the countries around the world with restaurants, street performers, rides (not many offer rides), and shops. When you come across characters in World Showcase they are either appropriate to the country (a troll in Norway for example) or they're dressed in native costume.

The rest of EPCOT is divided into pavilions such as The Living Seas, Wonders of Life, Innoventions, and The Land. The emphasis is on learning and education.

Since you have so little time you would need to read as much as possible about the different attractions so that you can see what interests you. You may decide to wait until you have more time available.

If you go, have fun!

You can certainly go and have a great time for a day - as long as you view it as a fun day and not as a marathon to cram as many attractions in 1-2 days as possible. See what you want, don't dwell on what you didn't have time to see. It will still be there if you want to go back.

You will first need to decide how you want to spend your one day there, what kinds of things you enjoy doing and you are interested in. After you read up on the differences of each park you can then decide what would best suit you.

I would also be sure to read up on Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure - maybe these parks would be more fun for you if you only have one day.

We can help you I think more once you determine what would interest you for a day.

Having just recently returned from Orlando if I had was going back for just one day it would be to either MGM or Islands of Adventure/Universal.

Though not a big Disney fan myself, once I was there I got caught up in it. You really should go to the Magic Kingdom as well as EPCOT. How can you say you were at Disney and not seen the castle or gone on It's a Small World or the Teacup Ride? If your only going to do one day-get a hopper pass and go to Epcot in the AM and Disney at night. Be sure to catch the fireworks and depending when you go a parade or two. Hope this helps!

A hopper pass is not available on one day tickets.I checked that out. It may be if you stay on property.

I disagree with Tracey. Magic Kingdom was my (and entire family's) least favorite park. It is old, not up with the times, and rather boring. For very young children it is great but I would not recommend it to adults as their only park.

The "Fantasmic" show at MGM was so incredible. It was a highlight!! Do not miss it. Disney has been really keeping MGM alive, vibrant, new and fun.

I agree with Pam. If you have only one day, do either Disney-MGM or Islands of Adventure at Universal. Both offer the most for your time and money.

Disney-MGM has the Tower of Terror and the Rock-n-Roller Coaster, both of which are great rides, plus the Indiana Jones stunt show, which is really good. Additionally, the Fantasmic light show is great!

I also enjoyed Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Epcot is a lot of walking around, and if you have young children, they probably won't get a lot out of it. It does have Test Track, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Ellen's Energy Adventure, and Cranium Command (which I really like and my family humors me by going with me on it!). Visiting the other lands was a lot of fun for us (we visited late December-early January).

I really liked the atmosphere of the Animal Kingdom, although I don't know if there's enough to do there for an entire day. But it does feature the Safari, It's Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur, and the Lion King Show, which is the best show I've ever seen at Disney.

Magic Kingdom is my least favorite of the WDW parks, namely because my children are older (14 and 11) and it has lost much of its appeal because it is tailored in many ways to the under 10 crowd - we tend to just walk through FantasyLand and Toon Town. Plus, it is the park most likely to become overcrowded because many people think that it IS Walt Disney World.

I would also choose Islands of Adventure over Universal Studios because, in my opinion, there's a lot more to do there - some really great roller coasters, simulation rides, etc. There are some great attractions at Universal Studios (Men in Black, Terminator 2, etc.), but they can't beat the Incredible Hulk roller coaster, Spiderman, Dueling Dragons roller coaster, Ripsaw Falls, Dr. Doom's Fearfall, Jurassic Park River Adventure, and the like at Islands of Adventure.

Whatever you decide, have fun!

I just posted this earlier...the parks were so empty yesterday that we did MGM, Magic Kingdom and EPCOT all in the same day. Little or no lines anywhere. Now, I live here so we know exactly where we're going and what we're going to skip, but I still thought that was pretty good.
